What is a Tankie?

Basic Rules:

Hate-Speech — You should be familiar with this one already; practically all instances have the same rules on hate speech.
Apologia — (Using the Modern terminology for Apologia) No Defending, Denying, Justifying, Bolstering, or Differentiating authoritarian acts or endeavours, whether be a Pro-CCP viewpoint, Stalinism, Islamic Terrorism or any variation of Tankie Ideology.
Revisionism — No downplaying or denying atrocities past and present. Calling Tankies shills, foreign/federal agents, or bots also falls under this rule. Extremists exist. They are real. Do not call them shills or fake users as it handwaves their extremism.
Tankies can explain their views but may be criticised or attacked for them. Any slight infraction on the rules above will immediately earn a warning and possibly a ban.
Off-topic Discussion — Do not discuss unrelated topics to the point of derailing the thread. Stay focused on the direct content of the post, rather than engaging in unrelated arguments.
Brigading — If you're here because this community was linked in another thread, please refrain from voting, commenting or manipulating the post in any way, this includes alt accounts. All votes are public, and if you are found to be brigading, you will be permanently banned.
You'll be warned if you're violating the instance and community rules. Continuing poor behaviour after being warned will result in a ban or removal of your comments. The only place I hear about him is here, so why not leave this community and avoid ml communities?
Because the admins of .ml are the devs behind Lemmy. (At least some of them including the one mentioned here.)
OK, but what does that have to do with using Lemmy? Are you worries they're going to taint the code or something?
They want to use Lemmy but not support the people that make Lemmy, but also don't use Piefed.
If they hate him, stop using his stuff for free. No one is making them use it, Tankies can't force you to run the code or click the URL.

You're in the minority of the people here. I commend you for sticking to your ideas.
Edit; if you're downvoting me from Lemmy, you're exactly who I'm talking about. You want to hate people calling out things and then want those who do to be removed.
Obviously do what you want.
My point is I just don't see how using Lemmy supports the person making it. I guess it kind of makes the platform more popular, but it's not like there are any ads or anything here, so the actual benefit they get from each user is incredibly small. Just don't donate to the devs and instead donate to whatever instance you use.
Me neither, it doesn't support them at all. Not using it supports them as much as using it. If anything, using it increases their work load to figure out bugs and issues.
I'm not the "sticking my head in the sand" type of person, and it's the main Lemmy dev.
There are other platforms that use the same (not tankie fueled) underlying protocol. Lemmy isn't something special per se.
Now, why on earth are you defending that type? I mean even slightly?
In what way did I defend them? I'm merely saying that if you don't like lemmy.ml, don't use communities hosted there. I largely avoid their communities and my enjoyment of Lemmy went way up.
My point is there's a lot of good here, so if you don't like the bad, don't join the bad.
True, but the main dev being a tankie still itches me more and more, so hopefully piefed will solve that, because as you say, there is lots of good here.

Downvoting me doesn't change that he asked a question without defending them. Mindless zealots don't want people to question narratives.
