Funny how this comic is about idiots cruising in the middle lane, when there's space on the right lane while most commenters don't get it and get upset about the tailgating driver (not saying tailgating was right, though). This comic is about you middle-lane-snails. Hate to tell you, but YOU are the problem here.

[–] FosterMolasses@leminal.space 6 points 11 hours ago

It seems like road rage is the problem here, but okay lol

middle-lane-snails. Hate to tell you, but YOU are the problem here.

This will vary wildly by jurisdiction, road design and specific circumstances. Is the right lane an exit lane only? Is the right lane currently occupied by a stopped/disabled vehicle on the shoulder? Are there parked cars, cyclists and/or pedestrians near the right lane making the middle lane safer for you to occupy? Are there other road conditions that currently make the right lane less safe to drive on, such as better snow plowing in the left lanes?

Honestly the bigger problem is this insistance on going fast. Going 5-10mph faster or slower will make no noticable difference in your driving time because of all of the time you will spend slowing, stopping and speeding up. I should know, I've biked and driven the same city routes and confirmed no realistic difference in commute time, and I've driven hour+ long highway commutes and tested this. The only thing going faster does is increase fuel consumption noticably (an extra gallon or more per hour was what my experiments found) and increase the risk of a ticket and/or a severe traffic collision

Speeding is bad for you, bad for the environment and bad for other drivers. Literally nobody benefits from it, not even the speeders

Every driver is an idiot but me.

In germany its illegal to block the midlane, when the right lane is free. So at least here the midlaneblocking dude is the problem

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 8 points 15 hours ago (1 children)

In Germany it is legal to drive in the middle lane if there's at least infrequent slower traffic on the right. There's a supreme court ruling on that.

[–] Pueblo@feddit.org 0 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

The supreme court has no power here and its stil illegal: https://www.adac.de/verkehr/recht/verkehrsvorschriften-deutschland/rechtsfahrgebot/ u can translate this site, its the biggest carclub in Germany

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

So that English speakers can understand what happened here:

@Pueblo@feddit.org posted a link that verified what I said, claiming that it disproved what I said, because apparently posting links without reading the content is cool.

Also, they didn't know what "supreme court" meant and thought that only existed in the USA.

[–] Pueblo@feddit.org -4 points 14 hours ago (1 children)

Well do are not able to translate sipreme curt correctly and u oversee on purpose what the article says. Its not nessasary when u have to drive "snake lines" so its common sense not driving at hogh risk. It contains also, that u have to leave a certain distance witch is not possible in that case. If there is enough space u have to drive to the right lane.

And ur wording shows what kind of person u are so i dont give a fuck for what u feel shame.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 1 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

Ok, noch mal zum Mitschreiben:

Ich hab geschrieben: "In Germany it is legal to drive in the middle lane if there’s at least infrequent slower traffic on the right."

[–] Pueblo@feddit.org -2 points 13 hours ago (1 children)

No its not. Infrequent means some cars from time to time and thats in fact not the same.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

Infrequent means some cars from time to time and thats in fact not the same.

Wie sagt man "from time to time" auf Deutsch?

Genau: "Hin und wieder".

Was hat noch mal der ADAC geschrieben?

Oh, ja, "Hin und wieder".

[–] Pueblo@feddit.org 0 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

From time to time isnt a clearly definied term, so that would revoke the rechtsfahrgebot in General. It has this too: it should prevent risky laneswaps. If u want to understand it that way, it explains why they print on pizzas: remove the packaging before putting in the oven. That would explain why the afd gets so many votes and is a public critism to our schoolsystem.

[–] squaresinger@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago

Ok, so now your source isn't good enough for you, because you know better than the ADAC. Gotcha.

[–] Aceticon@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 14 hours ago

This is the case in most, if not all of Europe.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 5 points 17 hours ago

Yes, he's an idiot.

[–] t_berium@lemmy.world 2 points 17 hours ago

Exactly. Here, either you learn how to use the lanes correctly, or you die.

Does Germany have laws about trucks taking over?
Where I live, trucks commonly mix between the 2-3 slowest lanes, passing each other at the same speed they're limited to. It really makes no sense to me to keep changing lanes to avoid them, and it drives me crazy.
I set my car to drive the limit and just stay in the middle lane, which produces much less traffic than winding around. If you're passing me on the fast lane, you're likely breaking the law.

/* In the context of the comic, blocking mid lane when sides are empty is wrong, I agree. I just like to rant

[–] Pueblo@feddit.org 4 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

Yes we have, the truck have to pass in like 12 seconds or under. But that doesnt really work. They are like 1km/h faster and try passing anyway

[–] creisel@lemmy.zip 5 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

But there are also many autobahn kilometers where trucks aren't allowed to pass other trucks or cars.

It gets ugly if someone decides he wants to travel less than 90km/h because truck drivers are always late and always have to drive the maximum allowed speed or their truck will explode.

Overloaded trucks on steep hills also a problem; They are underpowered and thus drive like half the speed they could.

I think the biggest issue with blocking the middle lane in Germany is, that many people can't pass someone in the middle lane because the left lane is too fast for them or at least you always have to suspect someone flying in with like 300km/h

[–] Pueblo@feddit.org 3 points 16 hours ago

Oh the left lane is war. Even if u travel with like 220km/h there is someone with flashing lights behind u who wants to pass. But there are not much autobahn kilometers were u are allowed to drive that fast. Its almost everywere under construction.

I think in the usa for example u are allowed to pass on the right, in Germany u have to pass on the left and arent allowed to pass on the right. So in my opinion the biggest problem are people who drive always on the most left lane and stay slow. Another big problem is the unlimited speed, people arent good in breaking on a good level. So they are the reason for traffic jam. There is a physicaly law witch explains that. I just know the german name and tried to translate it, but im not sure if thats the correct term. Retarded motion? In germany its "gleichmässig verzögerte Beschleunigung"
