We have Nazis and Nazi-lite -> MAGA

We have brown shirts -> ICE.

We are blaming immigrants and believing white people are somehow superior.

Now we just invaded a country, and say we will invade others.

What's happening here.. It feels strange. Is anyone else seeing this?

You're 1933 Germany, maybe a bit later (Nazi Germany didn't start attacking other countries in the year that the Nazis came into power). In 1940, Germany was already in the middle of a world war.

Have fun with the reprise of the 1936 Berlin olympics (FIFA worldcup).

Also, I remember being shouted down online when I was comparing Trump to Hitler in 2016 (it was never a 1:1 comparison, but there were clear parallels as early as 2016). Told you so.

Our only hope is that trump is old, senile and having mini-strokes. Hitler was much younger.

Not much of a hope. Trump isn't exactly the brain behind MAGA, and since the elections in the US aren't all that free anymore anyway it won't be that difficult to replace him. Considering how erratic Trump is, I don't think the replacement will be an improvement.

Hitler's health was also in severe decline in the 1940s, btw. He had more energy than Trump, but he got more and more erratic as the war went on and he was on a lot of strong drugs (prescribed by his personal doctor).

He is their charm to his base, there is no one else to replace him right now. Not to say that they couldn't come up with someone later, but I don't see anyone that could right now.

Every time someone says something like that I really feel we need to remind people that like a year and a half ago these morons are walking around with cups of JD Vance cum. Proudly. The bar is so much lower than you think it is. They'll latch on to who's ever handed to them.

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 5 points 5 days ago (2 children)

Do you really think their voters would abandon them in sufficient numbers to actually matter? I got the impression that a lot of them already think that he's a dick, they just support "his" policies (e.g. he never made much of an effort to make himself look like a devout christian, despite his decidedly christofascist policies that were obviously popular with evangelicals). And considering all the gerrymandering, voter suppression and the outright election fraud that Trump bragged about (which happened while a Democrat was president), they'd have to abandon the GOP in truly massive numbers.

A lot of his base just lost their healthcare and they have no jobs or money. Government jobs are a social program with extra steps and less of the shitty rep. Guess who just lost a lot of their funding and were fired? There are going to be serious repercussions this time.

Those voters won't leave the GOP, but come election day they'll stay home for whoever replaces Trump. Consider, if Vance steps in, he gets all the blame, for all the things, overnight.

Ever seen a cult leader successfully replaced?

This has been growing for Decades. Not years, not a decade, but more than half a century at least. Trump is just the latest in a long line of populist conservatives leading the charge against sanity.

Drugs like meth. Which is why he had more energy.

Can we get trump some meth?

[–] rumschlumpel@feddit.org 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Do you want Trump to have more energy?

[–] Candice_the_elephant@lemmy.world 4 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Well I do want him to have a crippling meth addiction. So it's a toss up.

[–] archonet@lemy.lol 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago)

The way I see it, his heart is already bogged down by decades of hamberders (they've already admitted he has circulation issues). Meth just might be the push he needs.

I say put the Oompa-Loompa on speed, see what happens.

People who rejected that comparison forgot that Hitler didn't start as 1945 Hitler. And Trump is well on his way to become that version.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 5 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

Except Trump can't live that long. A dozen+ doctors have posted articles and videos lining out how he clearly has frontotemporal dementia. God knows what heart and other issues he has, but even with the best of luck and care, it won't be long until he can't be in front of cameras.

That last is just my opinion. But to my mind he really started to sundown around 2021-2020. At this point, he's radically worse than just 2-3 years back.

True, but oh my god, look at his admin. No matter what happens in the next election, one of them will pick up until then. I fear Miller will simply eat the others. Or at least bite their heads off.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

I'm afraid most of the administration are fools put up for us to rage and clown on. For example, can you imagine the real powers behind the throne agreeing that Pete Hegseth was a great choice for SecDef? He's a handsome, drunk, fratboy with a military record and Fox News face recognition. Doesn't matter a whit if he's a twit. Perfect!

You're right, Miller may be the real puppeteer. Notice how he keeps as low-key as possible? Sure, he's says some stupid shit, but he's in the background against the louder idiots.

But could Hermann Göring have slid into Hitler's spot? That's not a facile Nazi comparison. Dead cult leader -> implosion -> dead cult. They have to grasp total control before Trump can't stand up and speak.

He can barely do so now, not joking. Watch him in a scheduled event his handlers can't avoid, like the meeting with the Japanese Prime Minister. Trump was not present, having a "bad" day as they say in senior care.

Think we're at 1935 now.
