Most of us don't have the support for that. Our bills don't stop when we're on strike. Maybe those in unions can do something but the rest of us would be fucked by doing that. I'm certainly not going to ruin my life on the off chance it actual gets that moron to change his ways.
Do you think that freedom fighters throughout history haven't had everything on the line? The American revolutionaries all had padded bank accounts and their bills paid off?
You don’t stop protesting because your lives are shit. You do it because of it.
This is the same tired argument all the boomers use to justify pulling up the ladder behind them on everything from housing to school. Shit in the 60s were far from great, but compare pictures of police then to now, sprinkle in a dash of internet and massive surveillance, and rip out any safety net that could have existed to help you weather the strike. Tell me THEN how you'd be out there risking it all on the chance you might have support. Hell, just thinking back to that one pic of Bernie Sanders being arrested for protesting in the 60s: cops wore uniforms with a helmet and the worst they had were dogs and fire hoses.
tRump knows he can't cancel the elections because of a war. We've had elections during war times. What they are banking on is Martial Law for civil unrest caused by their actions. It's why the keep ratcheting up the pressure. A general strike would be great, but a handful trying, without support, is gonna be a huge waste of those people's time and a death sentence to their potential future.
Propaganda is what they do. This is what the media has shown you all; that Americans are doing nothing and have rolled over for this regime. You won't see political actions by the masses the same way as the Civil Rights Movement. The state has spent the last 60-80 years dismantling the mechanisms to allow it. Those that can are doing whatever they can to fight a system they are chained to. I don't blame those who can't sacrifice it all at this point. Those of us that can afford it, are donating to food banks and community support groups. My family spent more on donations last year than gifts, for instance.
You want proof things are hard for citizens here? Wait till the holiday retail numbers come out. Either the upper-middle class (now just middle-class) saved them from recession indicators or the real economic hardships are about to rear their ugly heads!
My point is, don't believe what you see in media. Believe what you see at protests, retail spending numbers, and first-hand reports from people here. The kegs are primed. This shit is gonna pop off if/when tRump and the Republicans try to alter the election results. They are incompetent as fuck and do stupid shit all the time. They will fuck up and be obvious in their attempts.
The leaders of the American revolution were some of the wealthiest, most powerful, most influential people in the colonies.
It's like Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos deciding that Trump's tariffs are costing them too much money so they commit to organizing and overthrowing him, not a bunch of farmers and laborers managing to organize a rebellion
Even farmers own their homes and have means of producing food. We talk about peasant riots. Consider that those peasants had the means of growing their own food (even if they legally couldn't keep it). The colonists could revolt in the "British Colonies" because their families would keep the farm running while they were out training. Who is going to keep our bills paid while we're working with the SRA?
USAmericans are in a near-unbreakable bind because most of us don't have access to resources without the same society that is actively oppressing us. How many of us even own a plot of land to live on, let alone the means to provide food for ourselves? Sure, neighbors can come together and all grow food in our backyards... but that also means more mouths to feed.
Not the same situation at all. The American revolutionaries had the continental congress organizing and funding the war effort. Also it was a lot easier to get back on your feet from being financially destitute back then than it is today where it costs much more to simply exist due to landlords, corporations, and the government all constantly bleeding us for every dollar we make.
The point stands. There have been countless uprisings, revolutions, strikes, etc where the people didn't have a nice bank account.
Are you saying you have it worse that medieval peasants? Because they literally owned nothing and rose up time and time again against their lords. People a lot weaker than you consider yourself have changed the world.
So they had nothing to lose. No debts to fall behind on, no credit scores to ruin, no government agencies tracking them everywhere they went, no criminal records. If their revolt didn't work out, as long as they could provide labor they could move around and find a place where they were needed. Their quality of life would be relatively unchanged. For us if we take action and fail we will be dramatically worse off. We need to be organized and have a means to protect each other when things get bad before we can do much. Hopping on facebook and telling everyone not to go to work next week isn't going to cut it.
(History books 2130)
I guess that's why you're out there tossing molotovs. The history books certainly should highlight just how oppressive life in America is in this time.
Yeah, I do, as well as all the other things I listed that you chose to ignore. I'm not going to completely ruin my own life for a minute chance it causes the Trump administration to change course.
What about every other fucking resistance in history
Yeah, but that generation was made different.
