World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

Not trying to get too much into semantics here, but yes, if you only hope and choose not to act, nothing will be improved. Conversely-ish, hope is needed for many to act. Being without hope will lead many to loudly announce that nothing can be made better, in addition to not acting. Again, we may only be disagreeing on definitions here.
I disagree based on human history, although I admit that our conflicts are much more well documented than our ability to work together.
Do you not think that people have worked together to prevent conflict and bring about a better world? Also, do you not think that we've ever worked to improve things, or are you saying that our ability to create conflict is louder than our ability to work against conflict?
Most importantly, what do you believe you're doing, through your existence? I doubt that you're going around trying to create conflict in your environment, but: are you?
As long as the planet isn't absolutely destroyed, I assume the destruction of our species wouldn't cause the ecosystem to fail entirely. Who knows, though.
Here’s the thing, we are going to destroy the actual planet. Not in that, “tHe pLAnEt WILl bE FInE!” Dumbass semantics shit, we have enough nukes to glass the surface, boil the oveans, and melt the atmosphere that is paired with a literal instinct to use them. The environment required to have an environment won’t exist.
Sure, we’ve “improved” things, and there has been “progress”, but literally all of it came at the cost of decimated societies and genocides for any non western white cultures, and for what boils down to nothing more than convenience that is only allowed to exist because it directly supports and maintains the structure that is a capitalist war machine that is fueled by hate and orphans. Not to mention the amount of species we’ve wiped from this planet with no notice nor regard simply with our basic existence and viral consumption as an unstoppable biomass, let alone those we killed on purpose.
Oh, yeah, I forgot to apply the concept that I’m at the center of all of this. Forgot that I can single handedly fight all of this, like the main character in some short sighted fantasy storybook. Fuck off with this self-centered, woo woo, narcissistically detached, masturbatory nonsense. Pull your dick out of your mouth.
You wrap it ip perfectly there at the end, though with a “Who knows, though?” We do. You don’t, that doesn’t equate to some objective truth. You are literally saying “ignorance is bliss, everything will be great for everyone and everything, tralalalala!” as you ignore blatant realities. You just spent like six paragraphs explaining the joys of being a detached, oblivious, deliberate moron.
Grow the fuck up.
Why are people on forums so mad all the time? I'm trying to talk about the points you raised up - I'm not trying to attack you. If you don't want to have a productive discussion online, and prefer to have a cathartic release: I can't stop you.
You're not psychic and this hasn't happened yet. We should do everything we can to work against that.
You're not, but you are human, and therefore a puzzle piece in it all.
Never said that.
If I was that flexible, I probably wouldn't be on the forums.
Do we?
Where did I say that?
You spent a lot of effort to disparage someone you don't know who was trying to talk to you respectfully. Have the last word if you want, now.
You just love jerking off up there on your soapbox, huh?
You spent a lot of time there to say absolutely fucking nothing other than reality is too much for you to dane contemplate on a realistic level.
Have fun blowing yourself, there, Chuckles.
