Well yeah, Catholics are the "wrong" kind of Christian in the US.
My dad is the most Catholic Catholic. I haven't spoken to him since the new pope, but he never accepted Francis because they spoke out against Trump the first time.
They have a term for Catholics that don't accept the Pope.

It's not so cut and dried anymore. The majority of the court pics of the federalist society seem to be catholic for instance, surely a majority of their scotus picks.
The American catholic church is by and large deeply conservative.
