Crazy how Hasan fans talk just like Maga and uses the exact same logic...
I don't know much about him, but didn't he also help get trump elected by using his platform to discourage people on the left from voting?
Yeah, like I said "I don't know much about him."
I don't fucking watch streamers, and I'm not about to start. All I know about him is from what I've read, and I acknowledge that not everything I've read is guaranteed to be true. Hence why I phrased it as a question.
You could have chosen to clarify without acting like it was a gotcha.
I've read a couple lemmy threads about him. Some people say he's the leftist version of Nick Fuentes. Some people say that's a good thing because we need a counterbalance. Some people say it's a bad thing because leftism doesn't need to degrade itself by being guided by influencers/streamers. That's about all I know.
I never said no one can be critical about Harris or the Democrats. I can be critical of Harris and the Democrats, and I voted for her. Because I don't let perfectionism get in the way of my voting choices.
Critique:
I think she courted the center-right too much on her campaign, but I think that was a strategic (albeit erroneous) choice rather than a change in policy/platform. She must have thought there was actually a large number of reasonable moderate conservatives who could be swayed, and she probably thought she safely held the liberal and leftist votes, which became a blind spot to her and she failed to address their concerns. So I wasn't totally happy with the campaign she ran, but I still voted for her.
I prefer to take a pragmatist approach to elections. I can't choose who the nominee is. I can't choose who wins. All I can do is cast one vote, and in a two-party FPTP system, unfortunately, often that means voting for the least bad option.
I've been critiquing the system since I've been an adult, even as my personal political persuasion has evolved over time. I don't expect a fundamentally broken system to give us a perfect candidate. But I believe in incremental progress whenever possible, and harm reduction whenever necessary.
Contrast: streamers and threadiverse
But I only contribute to the public discourse by talking in online forums. I have no desire to become a streamer or a social media influencer. I have no desire to get millions of followers or million-dollar sponsorships. I have no desire to be in a position where a say "jump" and millions of people jump. I prefer anonymity and relative obscurity.I might not be able to shift the discourse much, but if I can put a few ideas out there, examine things from a slightly different perspective, elaborate some nuance, or combat disinformation, maybe I can change a few people's minds, or at least get them to see from a new angle, expand their perspective a bit, or just arm them with new info or details or arguments or points of view. It's not much, but when those people go on to participate in the discourse, they can change other people's minds too and it can have a snowball effect.
It's faceless, it's decentralized, and it's democratizing. I'm no leader; nobody blindly accepts everything I say. But I'm participating in discussions that have the potential to reach millions. And alongside those millions of people, I'm helping to shape the discourse and the development of ideas. A drop in the bucket, yes, but that bucket would be empty without any drops in it.
And in the age of bot farms, LLMs, disinformation, trolls, political influence campaigns, agent-provocateurs, hybrid warfare, and bad-faith actors, any honest lemmings out there doing an honest day's work to steer an honest discussion in an honest direction is a net positive in my book. I'm not being dishonest with myself about my position in the world; I acknowledge my limitations. I'm simply choosing to be a part of the solution to some of the problems that I see.
Maybe I will. If most of what I've heard about him has been wrong, might as well hear what he has to say for myself before judging him.
I'm really not interested in following any streamers, but I might at least listen to the speech you mentioned because I do like hearing ideas
I listened to his Yale speech, and a lot of what he said was true, but he kinda harms his own credibility when he glosses over the USSR and DPRK.
He just kinda says "US intervention bad" and implies that there was nothing wrong with those nations to begin with and that everything would be fine if it weren't for US meddling. A Korean student literally asked him if he wanted to revise that position and he basically says "I don't care how other nations govern themselves." Like, dude.
He even insinuated that the current situation in Russia is the US's fault for defeating the Soviet Union. And he acts like the fall of the USSR was this tragic thing, when people throughout former Soviet states literally celebrated when it happened. He said it resulted in mass deaths, but never mentioned the mass deaths the Soviet Union itself caused.
Most of what he said was okay though. One of the guys who asked a question said he agreed with 90% of it. I'm more like 85% I think, but that other 15% are pretty important. For one thing, he kinda skirted around any mention of Ukraine, even when someone asked about it.
Overall, he seems like he's done a lot of research, but outside of an academic context and without any serious rigor or pedagogy. Like, he belongs on internet forums where he can debate people and share his knowledge and ideas, but speaking at universities should be for people with higher degrees.
I don't like when the right-wing sends influencers/streamers to colleges to speak, and since I value logical consistency, I don't think the left should be doing it either.
Instead of attacking Hasan, why not attack some of his messages? What do you disagree with? If your suggestion is that he needs to be dirt poor to be considered a "real socialist or communist" that is corrupt capitalist talk. Capitalists love to guilt-trip communists/socialists like that so they give up their money/capital and have no way to fight anymore. Hasan is not even that rich when compared to the richest 1%. His life, spending 8 hours everyday, including most sundays, dealing with hogs, MAGAs, and also people like you, is a life I'd never want no matter how much money they'd offer, to be honest. I rather be poor, but play videogames with my homies as much as I do.
Who do you suggest we listen to or do? A news anchor? A podcaster? An author or artist? That'd be hypocrital. They are all paid and also seek views, because, just like you are a conglomeration of different teachers, voices and influencers that taught you in school or everyday life (and the good ones wish they have as many students as possible, because that's the goal of teaching, especially those who are heavily underpaid but do it for love: spreading a message to many people as possible, which is what Hasan wants to do too, reach millions).
What? I cannot just quit my job and go work for a non-existent Resistance or Community Group that you made up in your mind. If I stop going to work, work less or whatever, I'd be at a super high risk of becoming homeless and even starve and die and never be heard again, leaving you to think you were actually a genius who solved a problem. People like you always drop these really childish suggestions like "if you don't like living here, just leave," "change jobs," "just leave", but it's never that easy when you're genuinely poor. You might be a privileged middle class nepo baby who still has a big family he can rely on during hard times. The reality is that, that 50% of humanity that is still not connected to the Internet, do not have that luxury at all, dude. They are playing life on Hard Mode, you are playing it on Easy Mode. Just imagine. They still don't have Internet. Around 60% of the entire world lives with less than 20$ a day, for everything, including rent, bills, food, entertainment (if they get any)... About 10% lives with less than 5$ USD a day, etc. People like Hasan strengthened my empathy toward these people, and you trying to attack that is what turns people's fight or flight responses on, whenever they hear these unfair negative opinions about Hasan. It's fine if you don't like him, watch him, find him vulgar, as long as your heart and core ideas, of wanting to help all humanity, align. But when you try and smear his character like you did, to scare newcomers away, and then you admit you haven't even seen a single one of his streams in your life, just snippets or clips, that's evil, even if you are actually strengthening his community because it's backfiring so bad. Even I tell people to watch Asmongold or Charlie Kirk first before talking with confidence about him, so they form their own opinion about him, so they experience their "vibe" and hear them say the things people say he said, but Hasan haters or you? No. You automatically try to convince people to stay away from him as much as possible.
For example, thanks to Hasan, I now believe in this message: "Minorities, immigrants, women, people of color, LGBT..., none of them decided wages, healthcare or housing costs, or wars. People with capital did, and they love it when we fight sideways instead of up" stronger than before, when I was a capitalist supporter, when I used to think "capitalism good, communism/socialism bad." I was fooled into thinking that communism and socialism meant rewarding lazy people, when that's not true at all. I am aware though, that our biggest obstacle is human nature itself; greed, narcissism, ego... I rarely see MAGAs or MAGA influencers talking like this about systems or theories at all. They always talk about them like soccer teams, not tools we should analyze, evaluate and use properly to help everyone. Only Hasan does and I thank him for that. It's right. Human nature is more problematic, and killing or fully silencing it won't fix it, only education and providing safety and happiness, be it through free healthcare or affordable housing. 750k homeless people in America, 14 million unused housing units right now. Most homeless people in the world are the orphans who were never adopted and didn't receive enough education to thrive, not really junkies or gamblers as most people love to imagine to blame them and remove the responsibility or guilt off their shoulders. 20,000+ people lost every year to homicides and gun violence in USA. 30,000+ here in Mexico where I am from and live. We are the same. Our "competence," in Europe and Asia, have an average of losing no more than 3,000 people a year to homicides or gun violence. Their homicide rates are 5x - 15x times smaller than ours, which means, people are up to 15x times more likely to die to random senseless violence in the USA and Mexico than almost any other place in the world. The only exception is South Africa and you might already know why. All those slaves that were exploited for so long, and yet MAGAs still blame Black Lives Matter or complain about them trying to express their anger that things haven't changed in so many places yet, that racism hasn't left. You will never know what is it like to have 7+ children in average, a home at 19 years old or a stable nice happy family of 4 without a college degree like the AVERAGE baby boomer and some of our parents had. Both of my grandpas had a lot. One had 10 children, the other 7, both with massive homes. My uncles and aunts had no more than 2 children in average, plenty had 0. My cousins and friends, all 0, lol, and we are turning 30, an age where the chances of bearing a child with a disability increase significantly. They instead cry about RAM prices, living with their parents at their late 20s, no car, AAA videogames raising their price by 10 or 20 mere bucks, housing costs, rent costs, healthcare costs, people preferring to live with a broken bone or die than go into permanent medical debt, our leaders are blatant pedophiles...
Yet you are here. Focusing on Hasan and sometimes showing more passion about attacking him than any single name from the Epstein files, hands down, I am not kidding. I am sure Hasan is receiving more death threats and doxing attempts than dozens of pedophiles from the Epstein files combined together right the fuck now. How cool is that? It says a lot about humanity in general, the spot we currently are, how monopolized and controlled education is. How important it is, yet we celebrated those lazy capitalist classmates who'd say dumbass shit like "why do we need algebra?" "Why do we need history? Or geography? School is so boring." Those motherfuckers' votes are wroth as much as yours and they are also giving their opinions online, whether they are blue or red, doesn't matter, they lack so much perspective or respect for the world. Not saying they all suck, a lot change, sometimes it's just a dumb childish comment they made, but you see the pattern: the majority hates learning. Same with politics or let alone watch a single stream of any political commentator. They don't care, yet they cry when a warehouse is set aflame.
Hasan wants to help us solve things, and he has repeatedly said he's willing to pay an insane amount of taxes implemented by us, the people, not those pedophiles that will use that money to bomb and fuck children. So, why the hell are you still angry at Hasan? What the hell could go wrong about receiving or spreading messages like those unless you're one of those greedy rich leaders currently shitting its pants because the working class is finally being educated? It's insane. That's how it looks to some people who have watched at least one or two streams of Hasan in their lives.
When you reply like this:
You actually come across as someone who wants us to keep fighting sideways. You are the one who actually sounds like a MAGA, because you never attack the messages, you always attack the messengers. That is a very efficient and powerful tactic republicans abuse, and also Hasan's haters, like Ethan Klein fans who call others a pedophile repeatedly until their lives and careers are ruined. They do that without evidence and hence a reason he recently got sued by a billionaire and lost. It was the only way to stop him doing that, by having more money than him, because those who tried to sue him before would get stomped with capital. Asmongold fans do the same thing. Destiny fans as well. Zionists and pro-Israel media do it as well, and media is all about making money and getting views too, yet you focus on Hasan. They all agreed to spread the dog collar shock hoax, a lie to again, attack him and never his messages.
I already made up my mind after dealing with so many people like you. People who doubt or criticize Hasan the way you did are a massive red flag. You might be a MAGA trying to act as one of us, just to be able to poison the water and cast doubt. It won't work, dude. Hasan fans are very stubborn. They will keep providing the evidence to people to judge by themselves and realize that you tried to fuck them up in the ass, unsuccessfully. People who actually care about the truth, that is. I know there are so many people out there who will proudly support people who hurt them, so, to me, those people are already dead. They abandoned their humanity a long time ago, lol
And no. Hasan ain't "Joe Rogan of the left." Joe Rogan is a gullible orc. Not the same at all. I have given 0$ in total to Hasan too, and if he's grifting me, prove it.
...
Uh, ok then...
Is this seriously your reply? A "TLDR", not explaining why Hasan is bad, or why his messages are bad? Will you just call me crazy or insane for writing a lot or sounding too angry sometimes?
Hasan might be right about Reddit/Lemmy. He said most people in Reddit are Blue/Diet MAGAs; Americans who vote Blue, always hated Trump, but still LOVE the American army and the global influence they have, of being the "World Police," the "Hero of the World." American exceptionalism I think it's called. They think the world would look worse if the spotlight was above China, Russia, Europe, etc. They truly think America is still the "best hope humankind has to achieve an utopia" or whatever, and if you talk shit about America, even if you are someone like me whose family in Lebanon and Mexico have been killed by Israel and the USA, they treat you like a terrorist.
You might be one of those redditors, one that got banned recently and had to come here. If that's the case, that sucks. I hope it isn't, I really hope you are someone who prioritizes humanity over money and doesn't think that your army is actually "killing evil bad guys" or shit like that. For example, they still try to subtly make you doubt or dislike immigrants the same way Red MAGAs do with ads like this one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hamD7RueuvA or when she said this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1kh--W4l_w
You also didn't even choose Kamala. You don't really have a democracy, never did. Politician A or B are always chosen by those who can donate the most money to their campaigns. How much have you donated to political campaigns in your life? 100$? 1,000$? A million? That's nothing compared to the billions the richest 1% have, dude. Politician A and B, it doesn't matters which one wins, they will be ready to answer those donors' interests, not ours. I cannot vote in the USA, but I told people to vote for Kamala anyway, although I am kind of glad Trump won and accelerated all this hatred toward capitalism, the mask is fully off thanks to him, I just hope the momentum keeps going and it convinces people that we need to elect our own leaders for real, or we will keep being fooled by charismatic liars.
Why would she say that anyway? Because messages like those still appeal to many of you, blue imperialist Americans. You have it easier than the cultists, though, and everyone loves a redemption arc, so. Stop giving too much of a fuck about borders, care more about humanity as a whole, the people, the good ones, and that's it. It's so easy to support good things, it's crazy how hard people sometimes make it sound.
I am a Mexican, and I can tell you right now that a stronger border is not stopping fentanyl at all. Most of our narcos have a green card. All they need is a good haircut, glasses and a checkered shirt to convince the border agents that they are good people. The most important ones don't have visible tattoos and so on. They can easily blend with the public, you'd never know the crimes they have done if you talked to them face to face. If I asked you to create a fictional character that is a drug dealer, and the first things that pop up in your mind are Mexicans, Chinese or Black people, you are heavily clouded. It's little things like these that show so much about people. Just like you thinking Hasan is a bad guy somehow. The only way to prove that wrong is by writing a lot, talking a lot about his core ideas, and I guess that's something you want to avoid, because it's inevitably going to expose that you might be a massive POS. Hence the reason why MAGAs love to attack characters and never messages, because engaging with messages means having to show your true colors, what you truly think about immigrants, about muslims, arabs, Mexicans, Jews, Zionists, people in general, etc. And it's so easy to see your flaws when you do that, and you probably hate the humiliation, I don't know, it won't matter. Silent readers matter the most, even if this gets heavily downvoted, I hope they all still can agree with the most basic things like humanity being more important than money, otherwise you only breed violence and crime, that's what greed and envy do, and you cannot fully eliminate them because they are part of human nature.
Keep attacking Hasan, though. It was thanks to people like you that I watched him out of curiosity and found out you lied to me, lol. Even if I kept these replies short, I am sure your replies would have the exact same quality and value anyway, so, it's better to drop everything all at once to leave everything clear and move on. Bye
The comment you replied to was:
And then you went and did...
Well, all of that.
I'm no Hasan fan. I know of the guy and have seen him in interviews but I don't have time for twitch or wherever he streams. I'm too old for that. I just find the constant nitpicking and subdividing of ideas on the left really depressing. I'm not from the US but it killed all momentum in my country too. Several times over. Just be happy a guy is getting more people on our big tent side. We sure as hell need it.
