I can't imagine a 5 year old being competent at any job, let alone shrimping. What did they even do? Drop shrimp and throw tantrums?

Get beat when they dont do their job right, which is often. Theres a reason teenagers back then looked like theyd endured a lifetimes worth of hardship.
