I mean, if I get a text in the middle of the night, it's going to wake me up, and I'm going to check it in case there's an emergency. It's why I don't put my phone on do not disturb mode. Even if it's not an emergency I'll probably respond if it's a quick thing.

Ya all are funny. If I get a text at night...not gonna notice. If you call me at night...not gonna notice. I have an alarm clock that literally requires me to solve logic puzzles to wake me up, because even the loudest alarm wakes me up only half the time, and even then I am "woken up", aka will disable the alarm and go back to sleep without remembering a thing.

Slept through sirens, cat meowing and the like.

Only things I am sensitive to when sleepin is sounds of electic failure and my partner trying to wake me up. xD

If it's an emergency, I expect getting called. Cos who tf texts when shit's on fire?

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 4 points 1 day ago

Well, I use the word emergency kinda loosely; I just mean I want to be available if someone needs help. Like one time a friend's car broke down driving back from a party and he texted me around 2am, well past my bedtime, to see if I was still up to help. He would've called an uber and dealt with it in the morning if I hadn't responded, since he didn't want to wake me up, but I was happy to help anyway, so I just pretended that I'd been awake to keep him from feeling bad.

Oh man, I couldn't live without DnD. Putting aside emergencies, it'd drive me nuts just receiving various notifications throughout the night without DnD on.

My phone is set such that if there is a true emergency, my phone will allow a call through on the third attempt. Only ever needed to be used once when my father passed in the middle of the night.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

Same, but second attempt. My wife and friends know this and honestly everyone else I love lives far enough away I can't help right away either.

Yeah, my wife swears by it, but I'm lucky to be able to fall back asleep really easily, so it doesn't bother me much to be woken up.

How do you manage to never get spam calls and texts?

[–] Signtist@bookwyr.me 1 points 1 day ago

Most get filtered automatically by my phone, but even the ones that get through never happen in the middle of the night.
