It's easy to schedule a text so the recipient gets it the next morning. Looking at you uncle 3 time zones over
I don't understand all this rocket appliances.
It’s easy to turn on do not disturb when you go to bed. Take control of your own destiny.
i got fat thumb syndrome. usually i remember but they got it on the SEND key for some reason
My boss is like that sometimes. I'd come down one Sunday morning with some kind of stomach issue. Turned on company laptop to message him that I won't be coming in on Monday. Go to turn off the laptop again, and just as I do, there's his message popping up wishing me speedy recovery.
Just glad he doesn't expect that same kind of availability of me, because that can't be a healthy work-/life-balance.
LPT: you can schedule messages in advance. Right click, or hold, on send to program it (usually)
I use it to:
-
Avoid messaging my coworkers late at night.
-
Look like I am working late even though I'm not.
-
Annoy my lazy coworkers. You know the ones who ask the same questions, you've answered 9 times already? Answer him but set it to delay for increasingly longer time (I'm up to 4 days now). Then you can move on with my life but not leave them hanging forever.
Avoid messaging my coworkers late at night.
I generally don't do that. Once I'm off work, the laptop is shut and work profile on my phone is turned off. The second I step out of the building, I'm no longer having work-related conversations.
That's not just personal work-life ethic, it's the explicit policy my boss laid out. He just doesn't stick to it himself.
Bro, let me minister to you for a second about the wonders of going to bed early. It is so awesome. I myself used to be a night owl, staying up late, hitting the snooze button until the very last second. Then I started to get older, and felt like something was missing. So I tried something different: I tried going to bed earlier. And what will you know, I felt better! My sleep was deeper, more restorative, I didn't feel rushed in the morning. So then I thought to myself, "well, what if I go to bed even earlier, but then also get up earlier?" You'll never believe what happened next...
Yes but when do you get freedom from your kids.
Because those fuckers are up at 645 AM daily.
If I go to sleep early, I start being responsible whenevee they see me, and they wake up at 645 AM. If I stay up late, then I get peace at night, and in the morning
Okay, but I'm actually a night owl, I don't get rested if I go to sleep earlier, I'll be more tired in the morning, regardless of how much I sleep.
Now if I go to sleep at 5-6 AM, I don't need a lot of sleep to feel OK the next day. But 10-12 PM? Forget about it, I'll be groggy all day.
Have you tried 9:00 PM?
Doesn't help. 7 PM was fine though. Woke up at 1 AM all rested.
Yes, but also, you can wake up at some stupid hour like 4am, bathe, play videogames for like 2 hours, eat a nice breakfast, and then go to work cheery
I started getting up early to do fun stuff before work, but I honestly eventually found that getting chores done instead actually makes me feel even better! I get up at 5, work out, take a shower, do some Japanese lessons, pack my wife a lunch, and clock in by 6:30. Then when I'm done with work I'm done with everything for the day. I think the calmness of the early hours helps me focus and keeps my brain from thinking of all the other things I'd rather be doing, plus I'm still half asleep when I start working out, so I do my first set completely on auto pilot.
Sure, to each their own, but the thing I want to point out to people who haven't tried is that although everyone bangs on about waking up really early to do productive things, that you can also wake up really early to help put yourself in a good mood and make yourself happy before you face the challenges of the day, which i have not seen any rich people/self help gurus/influencers talk about
Ah, gotcha. I don't use other social media, so I wasn't aware that there were already people advocating for getting up early. I suppose it's not a difficult conclusion to come to.
it's not just social media, it's been a thing for fucking ages
"early to bed early to rise makes a man healthy wealthy and wise"
Oh, I have heard that before. I interpreted it more as advocating getting up with your alarm instead of hitting snooze a million times, but this makes more sense.
I work a rotating schedule 7am-7pm or 7pm-7am. Still manage to sleep 8ish out of every 24.
Amen brother!
Por que no los dos?
When it's hot out, I wake up at ~5:30 to be outside by 6/sunrise, get all my shit done by 1pm, take a solid 2-3 hour nap, sometimes in a coffee shop, and then I've got the entire evening.
Its easier when I can hear the roosters start waking up.
I mean, if I get a text in the middle of the night, it's going to wake me up, and I'm going to check it in case there's an emergency. It's why I don't put my phone on do not disturb mode. Even if it's not an emergency I'll probably respond if it's a quick thing.
Ya all are funny. If I get a text at night...not gonna notice. If you call me at night...not gonna notice. I have an alarm clock that literally requires me to solve logic puzzles to wake me up, because even the loudest alarm wakes me up only half the time, and even then I am "woken up", aka will disable the alarm and go back to sleep without remembering a thing.
Slept through sirens, cat meowing and the like.
Only things I am sensitive to when sleepin is sounds of electic failure and my partner trying to wake me up. xD
If it's an emergency, I expect getting called. Cos who tf texts when shit's on fire?
Well, I use the word emergency kinda loosely; I just mean I want to be available if someone needs help. Like one time a friend's car broke down driving back from a party and he texted me around 2am, well past my bedtime, to see if I was still up to help. He would've called an uber and dealt with it in the morning if I hadn't responded, since he didn't want to wake me up, but I was happy to help anyway, so I just pretended that I'd been awake to keep him from feeling bad.
Oh man, I couldn't live without DnD. Putting aside emergencies, it'd drive me nuts just receiving various notifications throughout the night without DnD on.
My phone is set such that if there is a true emergency, my phone will allow a call through on the third attempt. Only ever needed to be used once when my father passed in the middle of the night.
Same, but second attempt. My wife and friends know this and honestly everyone else I love lives far enough away I can't help right away either.
Yeah, my wife swears by it, but I'm lucky to be able to fall back asleep really easily, so it doesn't bother me much to be woken up.
How do you manage to never get spam calls and texts?
Most get filtered automatically by my phone, but even the ones that get through never happen in the middle of the night.
I think Pavlov is calling...
