Part of the premise of the original post is about what is more attractive to men, and expressing a preference against makeup is a logically valid way to contradict its argument (while also being a faux pas that context does not defend against). The whole thing is obvious bait and you're both falling for it.
Haven't picked up that I've got a habit of calling out these kinds of faux pas? I'm aware of what I'm doing. I don't have much patience for men thinking they're better than others for making the same kind of objectifying statements about women.
This isn't about what men want or what makes their dicks hard.
from the outside looking in, it very much seems like you think YOURE the one better than others. Youre taking the velma LARP way too seriously at this point, and youre giving 'netflix wokescold velma' and not 'cool 60s velma', so its not even a fun larp youre doing either
I guess a few too many times finding posts where y’all are pushing that 14 year olds can consent to sex and that men should be allowed to murder their wives if they cheat and joking about raping women has turned me real sour on these kinds of comments.
I’m not LARPing. I’m astonished at how some of you act. Or worse, how some of you see these comments and don’t say anything at all.

What I mean by trolling here is, deliberately inciting other people to have the desired argument amongst themselves. OOP isn't affected or aware of anything we say, it's completely one-sided.
I understand what you mean and appreciate it. You’re right, it’s not particularly productive to get into it in comment sections.
Aside from that, the overwhelming amount of casual sexism that’s openly tolerated and upvoted on Lemmy is astonishing sometimes.
These types of posts see a lot of men chiming in to say what they find attractive, what women should do to be attractive to them. It’s annoying. I’m aware that I annoy those men by saying something, but oh well.
Have you ever considered that maybe you're just not as smart as you seem to think you are? Or that people may not always agree with you, and that's okay?
Neither observation has anything to do with your gender by the way, though I have a sneaking suspicion you won't see it that way.

There's being strongly opinionated, and then there's acting like a stubborn, arrogant ass. The fact that just about everyone in this thread disagrees with you does not exactly reflect positively on your argument. And yet you continue to double down.
For the record, I do somewhat understand the point you're trying to make. Maybe this was not the post for me to speak on what I consider to be attractive, but I really didn't give it that much thought. So fair play for calling me out on that to an extent.
But I truly believe intention matters. If a man simply stating what he finds attractive about a woman is enough for you to think he's sexist, I guess you're entitled to your opinion. That you would equate me to someone who compares women wearing makeup to sexual assault is completely unhinged. I genuinely feel sorry for you if that's how you go through life.
Velma is calling out a concept she finds problematic and not any specific person, and others are over here calling her unintelligent, an "arrogant ass," and a "wokescold." And in the same breath, you're saying she's the one personally attacking people. I think you've contradicted your own argument by name-calling.
It's okay to disagree, but let's try to stay civil while we do that.

Honestly, that's fair. I was feeling pretty frustrated toward the end of the argument, but you're right that I shouldn't have stopped to name-calling.
There were a lot of people who disagreed with me about 14 year olds being unable to consent to sex with adults, too. That doesn't make me wrong.
Unasked for commentary on how a woman looks is unnecessary and presumptuous. Who gives a fuck what any individual thinks about how THIS woman should present herself? The only thing that matters is what SHE wants to look like.
Misogyny and sexism is on the rise again and this kind of casual sexism goes hand in hand with it.

Oh, for sure, doing your hair and makeup has absolutely nothing to do with trying to make yourself more attractive to men when you are a straight woman. Very valuable insight, thanks
Sorry for joining a heated conversation, but what about lesbians, women in relationships, aroace women, etc.? They still do their hair and makeup.
I specified a straight woman. As far as women in relationships, etc, as a man, I've noticed people of all sorts being MUCH nicer to me when I was ideal weight vs. overweight. So it actually has advantages to be attractive even if you're not actually trying to attract people. You get treated better in many situations.
