I’d be torn between options 2 and 3, personally. I think Harbaugh would restore respectability to the organization and might be enticed by the opportunity to continue coaching McCarthy, who is still really young and moldable. It’s easy to forget the kid isn’t even 21 yet and can still add a lot of mass to his frame. Personally, I’m ready to move on from Fields and start over, too.

The only truly generational QB drafted in the last half dozen years has been Mahomes, who went to a team that made the playoffs 4 of the 5 years previous to his becoming the starting QB. Under a coach that had 20 years of experience before he won his first Superbowl.

Build a team first. There’s always going to be QB’s to draft, and nobody knows which one is the special one.

If I absolutely had to choose this very moment, it would be Mayes.
