This question is unproductive.
In my humble opinion, Eberflus won’t be fired this year. They’ll make him hire a DC and publicly delegate play-calling. Getsy will stay as well for continuity.
The bears will definitely draft a QB at some point in the draft next year for security.
The only question is will it this be with the Panthers pick (intending for franchise qb) or a later pick (developmental) because they can trade that premium pick for more cheap assets. In terms of value added, an extra first round pick is more valuable than 3 year earlier on the “QB clock” which really only matters for those rare QBs that have no learning curve like Stroud and Herbert. For everyone else, it takes time.
This will come down to the draft evaluation process, Poles did the same thing last year and he will not make any premature decisions or statements. It wouldn’t be smart from a leverage perspective.
Bears brass will meet all of these guys and see where they’re at. Their grasp of the game, leadership, intangible traits and measurables. If Poles falls in love with one of Williams, Maye or another, he will draft them and allow them to compete with JF, no question. This would probably mean a trade for JF in the year.
If not then they’ll run it back with a stacked roster and continue the ultimate evaluation which is do you pay JF or not.
Debating it now doesn’t really matter.
Poles will not decide until all the data points are in.
