Posting this because I'd think it'd be funny if Hexbear occasionally went down whenever it was cloudy outside but also because the magazine/site is cool.

solar powered websites cannot contain the shitposting power of this website. End of story. Its little puny solar panels would splode, probably

Hexbear gives off lunar vibes, not solar ones. It just wouldn't work. hex-moon

I don't mean to start a struggle session but dithering images are not my thing. There - I said it.

How dare you, dithering is the People's Blur

it looks neat, but it completely broke darkmode for me so i've probably used more power viewing the site than I otherwise would have

They do. It's enough for the site to survive the night and a few days of overcast skies but not beyond that.

Don't you dare comment about how "that's a static site Hexbear is not" because I'll call you a nerd

All magazines are solar powered when you touch-grass

Hexbear is capitalist decadence snipes-hesitation

Really neat site--thank you for sharing! Aside from the low-power concept (which I love) there's some thought-provoking articles on there.

[–] abc@hexbear.net 5 points 1 year ago

Yeah they have some super interesting articles! Fruit Trenches: Cultivating Subtropical Plants in Freezing Temperatures was a great read about the USSR's attempts at growing fruit trees

We should hook Hexbear up to a hydro-solar system! I'm going to go find a hill and dig two ponds, one at the base and one at the top, and then have a solar powered pump running all day and draining all night through a turbine!

Rather than encourage further costly mineral extraction I propose that hexbear be powered by stolen electricity and co-located with a weed grow.
