Lets remain Federated, leave the admins banned, and turn their site against them

I don’t usually support full de-federation unless it’s extremely bigoted/hateful content coming from the instance. Libs being libs is just the world we live in.

If its going to be increasing diffcult to interact with dbzero due to mccarthyism we shouldn't bother pretending.

if their admins get mad enough to defed from us that's their issue. i think staying federated as a default (except for fascist or Zionist instances) is a good thing.

Even I think we should defed from divide by liberal and I historically (and still) think we should federate with more rather than less.

Fuck dbzero the Internet would be better off without them.

I swear 90% of the dbzer0 posts I see on the all feed are either /c/piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com, which we could and frankly should have a local equivalent to; and /c/share_anime_art@lemmy.dbzer0.com, which is just Stable Diffusion pictures of random anime characters shared by exactly one person. Both these communities together account for only a small fraction of the all feed. As I see it, defederation from dbzer0 would have virtually no impact on the content available on Hexbear. Those few Hexbears who need access to the content of dbzer0 can always have alt accounts on other Lemmy instances which do federate with them.

Average dbzer0 users have an opportunity to migrate to Hexbear, some already have alt accounts here. I think dbzer0 users should strongly consider migrating here or to any other instance that federates with us, if their home instance's administrators are so incompetent and generally unpleasant, and they desire to have access to the content of Hexbear.

All in all, my recommendation is to create our own piracy community, make sure that users of dbzer0's piracy community know about it, and then defederate.

We should stay federated with as few instances as possible until we have a proper separate instance that is only federated with Hexbear and Lemmygrad for our marginalized comrades to hang out in safely. After that we should federate this instance (hereby referred to as the Dunk Zone) with as many instances as possible

I agree with everyone else here that a lot of the users there seem cool and we shouldn’t punish them for shitty behavior of their admins.

i'm only on dbzer0 because of its position on the federation graph and its ostensible values. i think most people would be better off treating db0 the same way most anarchists — not radlibs — treat him and ziq: angry, unhelpful old person who yells at clouds, and occassionally says something unexpectedly wise, but you should never make eye contact.

Unless a comm is absolutely insufferable like those radlibs at 196, i don't like defederation and I rather enjoy the occasional squabble with the libs. I know a lot of people here disagree with that but this is my vote

Or is it a "know it when you see it" basis primarily? obviously it's always gonna be case by case to some extent, but the posted screenshots just seem like an ongoing 2 way conversation that got heated. Not my first thought when I hear "DM harassment" personally, though I can see how it might fit
