Now that the old Hexbear fork has been officially abandoned, this community will be used as a space for meta-discussion on the site itself.

MODERATORS

db0 and Unruffled have both been banned for reactionary behavior and, in the case of the former, DM harassment.

Due to these irreconcilable differences we thought it only right to allow the community to weigh in on defederating immediately.

According to this person "tankie" is anyone that criticizes the privilege of white westerners in the imperial core who have been privileged and comfortable their entire lives off of the backs of colonized people.

Further context can be found in this thread

As always, use dean-smile to vote for federation and dean-frown to vote for defederation.

well, I was gonna vote smile, but then I typed all this up and realized I'm not tied to this outcome and maybe shouldn't vote at all, I've just seen enough decent interactions with users from that instance that it would suck to see them go.

But it sucks more to know db0 was DM harassing. I had an interaction with them today that I thought went well, and I wouldn't have suspected them to carry on to DM any of the arguments I was seeing them have, they seemed pretty civil. I guess that's how people operate sometimes, though. ๐Ÿ˜ž this sucks.

yeah they freaked at the mod who removed one of their shitty comments, opening message called the mod a piece of shit.

dean-smile Honestly those two mods are the worst I see of that instance, it's pretty lib but there are some chill people too

Remain federated so the PIGPOOPBALLS continues to flow

[โ€“] TheLastHero@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

dean-smile we will agitate their users right out from under them

[โ€“] Dirt_Owl@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago

dean-malice

Ban their mods and admins but stay federated

[โ€“] cosecantphi@hexbear.net 14 points 1 year ago (1 children)

dean-frown

There are a lot of cool dbzer0 users who I'd rather we not kick out, but attempting to stay federated just for them is futile if their admins are no longer willing to act in good faith with us.

But also we should have our own piracy comm if there are comrades here willing to volunteer their time to moderate it. Can't see it being any more of a risk than our new drugs comm

dean-smile The users seem cool enough and most posts I see from them are good additions to my feed.

Instances take after their admins and community leaders. The people who like interacting with hexbear will just create an account on lemmy dot ml (or better yet, hexbear itself!)

[โ€“] Mindfury@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

dean-smile keep the users, ban and bully the admins

the cool among them amogus will migrate

[โ€“] TreadOnMe@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago) (1 children)

I feel responsible for exacerbating this particular interaction. I just have a compulsion from my chapo days to poke the bear when someone comes into the forum claiming that we are all mad and salty and they are the reasonable ones.

That said, all of my criticisms of his arguments were genuinely in good-faith, I can't stand his drowning in hypotheticals argument style and he clearly has some very weird control complex. (what mod doesn't amirite?)

Is that enough for defed? Idk. As I have said before I will be here regardless of the outcome as long as some semblance of the poster culture remains. It's pretty clear that the admin team doesn't like us and considers us bad-faith on jump, so I don't particularly see the point of further interaction. The users are mostly ok.

Eh. It's really that denial of first world privilege and calling simple acknowledgment of that 'tankie' that seals it for me. Not really a useful leftism then, is it?

Nine times out of ten, argumentative hypotheticals are a fool's way of sounding smart. I hate them.

"OK but what if the Palestinians were were Serbian, and the Israelis were Roma? Really makes you think, huh?"

The instace is fine, no need for collective punishment for the mods baning a few posts.

[โ€“] abc@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

I'm not gonna vote unless there's a definitive statement on whether or not we will have a Piracy comm - but I feel like it is also worth asking, what exactly would be the point of defederation if you've literally banned both bad actors already?? I get the whole 'communities tend to be like their admins' take but in general I think defederation is whack because it causes me to be forced to see more dunk tank posts... shulk-its-over

[โ€“] Rojo27@hexbear.net 13 points 1 year ago

fedposting

Oops, wrong fed vote dean-smile

dean-smile Overwhelming majority of their users are fine, so I feel it's worth just banning the handful of assholes, even if that includes their admins.

[โ€“] Luisp@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 year ago

Wait what. I joined because of c/anarchism

[โ€“] xj9@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago

dean-smile ban the mods tho

[โ€“] heatenconsumerist@hexbear.net 12 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Can we include Ruffled's vote on this as well?

dean-malice defederate hexbear

[โ€“] edge@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

dean-smile

They haven't really posted here so it's not that much a problem. Plus it's just funny when they get mad. I'm sure they'll defederate from us soon anyway.

[โ€“] Tabitha@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

dean-smile I believe it is peace for our time... Go home and get a nice quiet sleep.

[โ€“] Cowbee@lemmy.ml 11 points 1 year ago

I don't have skin in the game either way, but I think generally defederation is for instances that are inherently reactionary while banning can be done on a person by person basis.

I'm a .ml account though so those are my unasked-for 2 cents.

dean-smile

Their users generally seem enjoyable in my experience, shithead mods/admins aside.

[โ€“] unperson@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

:dean-smile: I like the piracy comm and most of the db0 users I see coming here; they don't deserve being thrown into the .world pit.

[โ€“] callTheQuestion@hexbear.net 11 points 1 year ago

seem like an over reaction.

The clowns are already banned so why fuss about it? The only reason to defed this hard is if they were going to make our corner of the fediverse unsafe for our vulnerable members. Just let them defed if they want to, and any db0 members who want to make a second account here can do so.

dean-smile

[โ€“] EcoMaowist@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

dean-smile I've seen many dbzer0 users who like Hexbear, I don't think they, as well as potential future comrades, should suffer because of the actions of reactionary moderators.

[โ€“] MaoTheLawn@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago

dean-smile

never noticeably noticed dbzero users ever
