A false dichotomy created by pop culture to divide teenagers into cliques.

[–] Flyberius@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Yeah, I mean I did plenty of both.

[–] MammyWhammy@lemmy.ml 26 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And have felt super cool and like a total loser doing both.

Imagine not cracking a beer while playing Vidya Games.

Is this divisive jock/preppy/nerd/skater/gangsta shit still going on 23 years after I left high school? I thought y'all zoomers were better than that.

[–] bigmanjezza@lemmy.world 47 points 2 years ago (1 children)

hello, I'm a 2020 hs graduate, I'm probably in the zoomer category. from my experience, this does not exist outside of movies.

[–] Mcballs1234@lemmy.ml 8 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Man what was 2020 graduation like?

[–] kluevo@lemmy.world 11 points 2 years ago (1 children)

fun /s

I mean, as a nerd with no interest in prom, it wasn't all bad. My hs has us still do graduation almost as normal (masks and spacing, ofc), with the only major difference being that it was split across multiple days so we could fit everyone on the front lawn.

The fact that they had to do the speeches six times was the only reason I was slightly glad to have missed out on being valedictorian/salutorian

[–] Mcballs1234@lemmy.ml 3 points 2 years ago

Sounds like a pain in the ass

[–] bigmanjezza@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

pretty boring tbh. most of it was the same, just with masks on, and classes online. thankfully, mu part of australia was mostly unaffected by covid, so final WACE exams were basically the same. the big send off was already done before hand

[–] SternburgExport@feddit.de 36 points 2 years ago

Actually not. You can be a massive nerd these days and still go get fucked up and party.

[–] Aesthesiaphilia@kbin.social 10 points 2 years ago (2 children)

There will always be popular extroverts and unpopular introverts.

I was actually both . I was in the robotics club and programming/ gaming on my free time. Then on the weekends I was out drinking and hanging with a completely different set of friends.

[–] nexguy@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

The double loser? Gaming and having friends must have been painful to live through.

[–] Fibby@lemm.ee 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Gamers truly are the most oppressed ✊😪

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 1 points 2 years ago

Gamers rise up!

only-good-gamer

[–] sagrotan@lemmy.world 9 points 2 years ago

In the 90s it wasn't a problem to do both, so I became a double loser.

[–] treadful@lemmy.zip 8 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'm about to blaze up and jump into this Tarkov wipe with the boys. The fuck is this.

[–] c0mbatbag3l@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Me, dropping into DMZ with a single plate carrier, a throwing knife, my vape, and a DREAM.

[–] GeekFTW@kbin.social 7 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I was the Internet/Gamer kid raised by television who got drunk at 17 and fell off a roof. Why was I drunk on a roof? Fuckin' 2001.

Not sure which category I fall under.

[–] platysalty@kbin.social 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah lol. I was an internet troll through and through, and somehow found my way into a pretty diverse group in uni.

I don't even want to start on the drunk shenanigans we got up to.

Alcohol gives you cancer, gaming does not.

If you’re not born rich, you’re a loser. There.

[–] Dirk@lemmy.ml 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I really don't care about party-goers.

[–] Anamana@feddit.de 6 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How about internet party goers

[–] Engywuck@lemm.ee 7 points 2 years ago (1 children)

And how about lan-party goers?

[–] FrostyCaveman@lemm.ee 2 points 2 years ago

Drunken LAN parties. Ahh, those were the days

[–] Squirrel@thelemmy.club 5 points 2 years ago

Oh no, I was in the first group (for 3/4 of high school) and I definitely thought that I was a loser.

[–] bigmonkey@hexbear.net 4 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

I was both of these as a teen and basically still am. I'm also a confirmed loser so this meme checks out!

[–] aaaaaaadjsf@hexbear.net 2 points 2 years ago

Same except for the still am part.

[–] KingJalopy@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Spoiler alert...

They both suck

[–] MasterNerd@lemm.ee 3 points 2 years ago

Bruh this meme is so stale could clobber someone to death with it

[–] gamarus@lemmy.cat 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)
