Adelaide Casely-Hayford, born on the 2nd of June in 1868, was a Sierra Leone Creole Pan-African feminist, educator, and author. Hayford established a vocational school for young girls in Sierra Leone that emphasized racial and cultural pride.

Hayford was born into an elite Sierra Leone family in Freetown, British Sierra Leone. She spent much of her youth in England and studying throughout the West, also studying music in Germany at the age of 17.

While in England, Adelaide married West African author and Pan-Africanist J. E. Casely Hayford (also known as Ekra-Agiman). Their marriage may have influenced her transformation into a cultural nationalist.

In May 1914, Hayford returned to Sierra Leone, dedicating the rest of her life to educating African girls. In October 1923, she established the Girls' Vocational School, one of the first educational institutions in Sierra Leone to provide young girls with an African-centered education, according to historian Keisha N. Blain.

Hayford frequently traveled throughout the world, giving a speaking tour in the United States on misconceptions about Africa. Author Brittany Rogers notes that these travels also exposed her to the exploitation of black female labor throughout the world.

Although her educational concept for young girls had a Victorian-influenced, middle class domesticity in mind, Rogers writes that these travels led Hayford to begin writing and speaking on matters of labor as well. Hayford died in her hometown of Freetown, Sierra Leone in 1960.

"Instantly my eyes were opened to the fact that the education meted out to [African people] had...taught us to despise ourselves. Our immediate need was an education which would instill into us a love of country, a pride of race, an enthusiasm for the black man's capabilities, and a genuine admiration for Africa's wonderful art work."

If you give a large gay man a wand does that make him a hexbear?

The funny thing about the β€œgroomer” narrative is that it’s popular with churchgoers who all know one or many older people who confess to meeting their wives as teenagers when the men were in their mid-20’s.

My half-estranged mother-in-law came to visit us and saw my little Lenin shrine that I made for May 1st (and never took down because why would I). It was sick. The most predictable finnish boomer reaction one could imagine. That tyrant! That murderer! Oh, the shock! It was pretty great. Thanks, Lenin. I should make a notch somewhere on the shrine for every time he does this.

lenin was a murderer

yeah, ok, good. look at who he murdered and tell me they didn't deserve it

A part of my job is disappointing coworkers when they say "this is a great application for LLM" when it's something LLMs are famously bad at out of the box, and the amount of tweaking needed will take longer than just doing traditional ML.

I got a used asus rog laptop with a broken fan recently, replacing the fan dropped the cpu temps from 90-100Β°c to 75-85Β°c (with 10-15% load)

I checked everything before I realized asus thought that 3ghz and the absolutely minimum fan speed before something catches on fire is a reasonable default cpu profile, you have to switch to "silent" to underclock the cpu to sane levels for desktop use

The last option besides these two is "turbo", it's the default clocks but the fans are stuck at 5500rpm

I want to work at asus now, my current employer frowns on mixing benzos, vodka and lead before lunch

So I've never encountered someone who has problems with sex scenes in movies IRL until yesterday. Dude I work with stopped watching the fallout show in the first episode cause there was a sex scene. This was also weird cause he's a big fan of The Sopranos.

Tagline posting

Today, I'm gonna spend 6 hours making new hexbear dot com accounts to debate about how everyone except me cares so much about me being repeatedly banned. I actually care zero, but somebody has to do it. This is how I want to spend my finite time on this earth.

This is a universal forum thing isn't it? I'm a moderator on an old niche gaming forum and this user has been doing exactly what's described in the tagline for years. Holy shit possibly a decade I'll have to look.

What is the driver behind people who do this? I suppose it becomes a habit or routine at a point...

In the modlog there's a post that got pulled from the_dunk_tank under rule 8, but the linked post had thousands of upvotes and comments. Just how much engagement does it take for something to not be considered too obscure?

Just finished the Fallout TV show, it was pretty good overall but the last episode was kinda dogshit. It felt like the show was originally written to be one season only but got greenlit for a second one halfway through the project, and as a result they couldn't make any of the character motivations make sense.
