Chat is a text only community for casual conversation, please keep shitposting to the absolute minimum. This is intended to be a separate space from c/chapotraphouse or the daily megathread. Chat does this by being a long-form community where topics will remain from day to day unlike the megathread, and it is distinct from c/chapotraphouse in that we ask you to engage in this community in a genuine way. Please keep shitposting, bits, and irony to a minimum.

As with all communities posts need to abide by the code of conduct, additionally moderators will remove any posts or comments deemed to be inappropriate.

Thank you and happy chatting!

Why is that something that needs to be dealt with?

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago (2 children)

Because occasionally one must tolerate things that are not in our circle of enjoyment? Friends, companions, acquaintances, coworkers or whatever reason they happen to be in your social circle…

I have a couple friends that i get along with perfectly other than the fact that they are Swifties. Im not going to not be friends with them despite how often they talk about the tortured poets lament or whatever the fuck its called.

Yeah, that's what I mean. Like, what's OPs problem with normies? Join a fantasy football league or some shit.

[–] davel@hexbear.net 10 points 1 year ago (1 children)

I don’t understand. If you think joining a fantasy football league is the solution, then what do you think is the problem?

[–] GaveUp@hexbear.net 8 points 1 year ago

then what do you think is the problem?

OP wants to lead the revolution and be Lenin and is upset people are listening to Post Malone instead of organizing

Ah i got ya now. I suck at context, apparently.

I am jealous of those people in some ways. They're probably much happier than I am.

so much of our culture is now based on media consumption, it's hard to avoid. too expensive to do anything but sit at home and watch TV

I guess movies etc can be a segue into talking about other topics. so if they talk about Furiosa you can bum them out by talking about the real climate apocalypse

This is some youth pastor stuff and I'm here for it.

Change the topic to older movies. Get recommendations. Pirate the recommended movies and watch them. Now you can talk about the older movies.

I have befriended several coworkers this way. People fucking love it when other people listen to their recommendations. And hey, sometimes the recommendations are good!

I say "Hi" to my coworkers and try to change the subject

Stare at them reproachfully every time they talk about the new Tay Tay album, or the new PS5 game.

I have some friends who are Disney adults, they made me watch Free Guy...

How do I tolerate it? I pretend to like it while I die inside... I'm profoundly unwell. blob-no-thoughts

If they somehow have no grievances at all to agitate on, move onto more agitable targets to radicalize

[–] davel@hexbear.net 6 points 1 year ago

Fortunately I don’t run into them. My condolences.

This is pretty much every human being I see in person

What more is there to be excited about though?

There isn't much in the way of positive projects to get involved with that aren't 1) very personally dangerous or 2) hard to physically be involved with (for various reasons) or 3) by some group that is dodgy.

I feel like addicts still somewhat care about other things than their addiction, or at least want to. The ignorance aspect is like some new thing that I don’t understand
