/c/TenForward: Your home-away-from-home for all things Star Trek!

Re-route power to the shields, emit a tachyon pulse through the deflector, and post all the nonsense you want. Within reason of course.

~ 1. No bigotry. This is a Star Trek community. Remember that diversity and coexistence are Star Trek values. Any post/comments that are racist, anti-LGBT, or generally "othering" of a group will result in removal/ban.

~ 2. Keep it civil. Disagreements will happen both on lore and preferences. That's okay! Just don't let it make you forget that the person you are talking to is also a person.

~ 3. Use spoiler tags. Use spoiler tags in comments, and NSFW checkbox for posts.
This applies to any episodes that have dropped within 3 months prior of your posting. After that it's free game.

~ 4. Keep it Trek related. This one is kind of a gimme but keep as on topic as possible.

~ 5. Keep posts to a limit. We all love Star Trek stuff but 3-4 posts in an hour is plenty enough.

~ 6. Try to not repost. Mistakes happen, we get it! But try to not repost anything from within the past 1-2 months.

~ 7. No General AI Art. Posts of simple AI art do not 'inspire jamaharon'

~ 8. No Political Upheaval. Political commentary is allowed, but please keep discussions civil. Read here for our community's expectations.

Fun will now commence.

I didn't know what to bring, so I brought Leola root. It's made out of people!

You'll have to pretend that's Neelix because I don't know how to Photoshop a GIF.

Fantastic. lol

Video editing is not something I'm equipped with the tools or skills to do, so I appreciate it all the more when other people can.

The best I can do is add a chyron and splice in some B-roll lol.

The fair, I did this in 2 minutes on my phone. Video editing isn't too difficult once you have some knowledge and a giant stockpile of footage.

Yeah, the tools are where I lack knowledge. Mostly just ignorance on my part for having not kept up to date. That, and finding good ones that work well on Linux.

The last time I reallydid any kind of video editing was in college when I was minoring in broadcast journalism. When I think of editing a video, my mind immediately goes to firing up Final Cut Pro or popping my S-VHS tape in the linear video editing machine.

Ok, typing S-VHS just now made me feel like I'm a million years old 😆

I do all my edits on Linux. I really recommend Shotcut and Kdenlive. If you are lucky, Davinci Resolve compile and run for you (it won't for me because it is super picky about hardware).

Because it’s so people won’t be confused with tuna piano.

I’ll see myself out. 🏃‍♂️💨

You can tuna piano but you can't piano a tuna.

Chicken of the cave

[–] Chickenstalker@lemmy.world 13 points 1 year ago

Apparently, it is an Americanism that refers to the processed tuna flakes in tinned containers.

[–] over_clox@lemmy.world 11 points 1 year ago (1 children)

We say it that way to clearly distinguish them from chicken fish and tuna birds, duh.

[–] Stalinwolf@lemmy.ca 10 points 1 year ago

I don't know anyone over the age of 9 says "tuna fish".

[–] southsamurai@sh.itjust.works 10 points 1 year ago

Ha! That's what I call my pet chicken when she's being sassy.

Which, being a chicken bird means 25/8

That's not a typo, she's just extra

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 7 points 1 year ago

I say tooterfish popkin.

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 5 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Tell me you're American without telling me you're American.

[–] ptz@dubvee.org 2 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Lol. I guess the term 'chicken bird' just didn't cross the pond.

[–] fmstrat@lemmy.nowsci.com 3 points 1 year ago

It's "tuna fish". Most everywhere else it's just "tuna", like a "tuna sandwich." 😉

[–] udon@lemmy.world 5 points 1 year ago

Around here, people call it sea chicken

[–] NigelFrobisher@aussie.zone 4 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Why don’t we just call it “bombay” instead of “bombay duck”? It’s obviously a duck.

[–] multifariace@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Why isn't it Mumbai?

[–] qjkxbmwvz@startrek.website 4 points 1 year ago

Prickly pear cactus are called tuna (maybe just in Spanish?)

I wouldn't want to confuse tuna fish with tuna fruit...

Also, I think tuna fish refers to certain preparation, e.g., as used in a tuna fish sandwich. This is in contrast to sushi ("tuna roll") or a tuna steak, which typically don't have the "fish" qualifier.

[–] MrPoopyButthole@lemmy.world 4 points 1 year ago

Sometimes I just want to blaze one with Bev snd chill in a mud bath. But life can't afford me those simple pleasures.

[–] Toes@ani.social 4 points 1 year ago* (last edited 1 year ago)

that's easy.

A tuna is a fish, while tuna fish is a dish.

[–] BoxerDevil@lemmy.world 3 points 1 year ago (1 children)

Because we can't agree on what a fish is.
