Rule 1:

Sexy pirate John Oliver artwork ONLY

Now I have been there for around 4-5 months and Reddit just killing piracy over there and making it a rule uploading this bullshit sucks.

It is not really a useful sub anymore, get off.

Yes I will be active on her though. It is the only useful thing now.

and making it a rule uploading this bullshit sucks

Do you think they just want to troll you?

Have you really not read one of the many stickied posts all over Reddit about the blackout and what the admins are going to do to that website?

[–] Snowpix@yiffit.net 2 points 2 years ago

Yeah, that's literally the entire point. If the subs are unusable, site traffic falls, Huffman makes less money and looks worse to the investors, and people find better alternatives like here.

[–] icongnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 2 years ago

Just the quality of replies and posts here over the old sub, is honestly alone worth the move.

[–] Kettlepants@lemm.ee 4 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Active on her? She's a lucky lady 😂

[–] thesanewriter@vlemmy.net 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

It's honestly hilarious Reddit bungled this so badly as to upset everyone. Ah well, at least with this digital piracy community I can rest assured a corporation isn't censoring discourse.

[–] Oneobi@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago

Elon has shown the way to spectacularly self destruct!

[–] sternail@kbin.social 2 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Reddit is probably going to be happy about the protest in this sub. Can't imagine that investors like the sub about getting stuff for free...

[–] RomanRoy@lemmy.world 2 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I mean, the sub was closed and Reddit forced it to reopen, so there is an argument they do endorse piracy

[–] gsa32@lemmy.world -2 points 2 years ago

I still can't believe Reddit actually decided to do that. I thought they were going to ban the sub or keep it closed.

[–] Exilfranke@feddit.de 1 points 2 years ago

The power of Reddit lies within its very diverse and many communities on special interests. People browsing r/piracy also browse the Frontpage, r/all and so on. But mainly their special interests is what kept them there. Because funny memes can be found everywhere.

Now, if those special interests are not being served any more, people will go elsewhere. So no, I don't think they will be happy and investors won't be either.

Yes yes yes; I'll join and participate!

I'm afraid to ask, but why John Oliver?

[–] Contend6248@feddit.de 7 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

He makes Last Week Tonight which is a show with a big reach, Reddit-Mods are essentially pinging him.

He did respond on Twitter with a dump of sexy pictures of him to post.

The show is on pause because of the writers-strike at the moment, so it might take a while for this to be a topic.

[–] Sp00ky94@lemmy.fmhy.ml 2 points 2 years ago

I wasn't sure if the writers strike was still happening. Earlier today I did search on YouTube for his segment on the reddit situation to see what he had to say.

@hyperio The great thing is, I don't even have to sign up. I just follow this sub (do you still call it a sub?) from my #Mastodon!

Ahh, bless the #Fediverse.

I think is called community now. At least is c/piracy to access !piracy@lemmy.dbzer0.com

[–] rooster_butt@lemmy.world 4 points 2 years ago (3 children)

You would think that a pirates favorite letter be the r/, but it truly always was the c/.

[–] FuriousFrodo@vlemmy.net 3 points 2 years ago

pirates be at 'SEA' now...

This is a top tier joke and you should be proud of yourself

[–] icongnu@lemmy.blahaj.zone -1 points 2 years ago

[–] solidsnake2085@lemmy.world -1 points 2 years ago (2 children)

The whole John Oliver thing is just awful. Glad to be moving here for good when Sync shuts down.

[–] SubArcticTundra@lemmy.ml 4 points 2 years ago

That's kinda the point of the John Oliver thing

[–] Maggoty@lemmy.world 1 points 2 years ago

Sync is moving to Lemmy!

[–] webghost0101@lemmy.fmhy.ml -1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Quick question, how does this piracy community compare with fmhy?

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.fmhy.ml 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Fmhy are just providers of the instance and that's what their general communities focus on. For information regarding the high seas, this is the community you want to look into.

[–] darkstar@sh.itjust.works 0 points 2 years ago (1 children)

No actually fmhy is technically a "competitor" to this community if you want to call it that. I personally think fmhy has a better megathread than this one due to it being updated much more frequently, but essentially both communities are similar.

[–] Poiar@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 years ago

Either one community will become big and the other small.

Or, the two communities will start going into niches (like, one being more focused on movies and the other games)

And seeing as you can subscribe to both, I assume that these communities will assist each other.

The strength of federation is that you have no "one-true-community" anymore. If one gets sick (I.e. Reddit) you have other safe havens to take over
