Review on Amazon: A banana for scale should be to scale https://a.co/d/aAZPaX4

Alt text1 star review by user "Tall Guys Wife" on Amazon of a rubber banana that has the words [for scale] on it.
Picture attached shows rubber banana is smaller than real banana.

Review text reads: "purchased this 'banana for scale, but it's way smaller than an average banana. People on social media demand if you're showing something that you use an average banana for scale. I would never deceive anyone with this ridiculous substitute for an accurate measuring tool."

Tbf, I'd also be kinda pissed if I bought a meme banana and it wasn't the size of a real banana. You had one job...

This one is marketed towards men

[–] Cheems@lemmy.world 27 points 7 months ago

IT LOOKS LIKE AN AVERAGE SIZED BANANA TO ME. TOO BIG EVEN MAYBE

[–] MonkderVierte@lemmy.ml 56 points 7 months ago (5 children)

We need to standardize banana.

[–] Spider2013@lemmy.world 13 points 7 months ago (1 children)

How tall are you? 6 and a half bananas

[–] konalt@lemmy.world 11 points 7 months ago

this is how the imperial system was invented

[–] justtobbi@feddit.org 9 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Ja! Let's create a DIN norm!

[–] stupidcasey@lemmy.world 9 points 7 months ago

We can make it exactly 3.5 Thumb lengths.

[–] Lucidlethargy@sh.itjust.works 2 points 7 months ago

I agree. I say seven inches.

[–] FlexxxingOnThePoors@lemmy.world 40 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Americans well use anything but the metric system, lol.

I'm surprised more things aren't measured in football pitches

[–] chiliedogg@lemmy.world 1 points 7 months ago

We talking real football or the one where you use your feet?

[–] Kolanaki@yiffit.net 33 points 7 months ago (1 children)

SLPT: use a banana flavored Runtz candy piece to make your schlong look fucking enormous.

Wow he would burst my chest cavity! 🀀

[–] Lux@lemmy.blahaj.zone 26 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Actually that banana's kinda big

[–] bonn2@lemm.ee 15 points 7 months ago (2 children)

Maybe it is a regional thing? I'm from the US and that is pretty much the size of every banana at my grocery store.

To clarify, by regional I mean that the US disproportionately buys / sells a variety of bananas that is just bigger. Though I'll admit I have not taken the time to google this so 🀷

[–] Lux@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 7 months ago

You're thinking too hard, i was just making a penis joke lmao

[–] RandomVideos@programming.dev 2 points 7 months ago

Its the same for bananas in Romania, but i know that at least in Egypt the bananas are closer in size to the fake banana

[–] key@lemmy.keychat.org 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Agreed. Another review has a picture holding it and it looks like typical banana size. That banana is just a banana of unusual size.

[–] SuperIce@lemmy.world 2 points 7 months ago

Bananas in the US are pretty large though.

back in my day, we'd measure things with a REAL banana

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)
[–] Quexotic 4 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Thank you for the hope. You can still buy the gros michel, but it's breathtakingly expensive. I'd love to finally try one.

[–] explodicle@sh.itjust.works 3 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Well then just buy one banana. How much could it cost, $10?

[–] Quexotic 4 points 7 months ago* (last edited 7 months ago)

You can only buy them by the crate and their hundreds of dollars and you can pretty much be guaranteed that half of them will spoil during shipment. I may actually go in with a number of other people and purchase an entire crate of them but I'm not really sure I could find enough people that will be willing to pay or split the cost, especially with the knowledge that a bunch of them are probably going to spoil along the way.

Edit: It's $36 for one banana with shipping costs.

$127 for a small box. I don't have that kind of banana money

I have a totally different kind of banana you could use for scale. wink wink

[–] jaschen@lemm.ee 28 points 7 months ago (1 children)

This is only useful if we are measuring small insects or microbes. nudge nudge

[–] Zier@fedia.io 10 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Now, now, don't be so self deprecating. Some people are into 'small and adorable'. giggle giggle

[–] jaschen@lemm.ee 4 points 7 months ago

All love, my man.

[–] JackbyDev@programming.dev 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)
[–] Zier@fedia.io 1 points 7 months ago

That's a 'firm' yes from me.

[–] MachineFab812@discuss.tchncs.de 11 points 7 months ago

There be no blasphemy or deception like using a plastic banana rather than whatever random banana they have at your local store.

[–] AsudoxDev@programming.dev 8 points 7 months ago (1 children)

Bananas are now officialy a tool for measurement.

[–] SassyRamen@lemmy.world 6 points 7 months ago

Always have been

[–] buzz86us@lemmy.world 7 points 7 months ago (1 children)

I feel like a.BIC pen is much better for scale

[–] user224@lemmy.sdf.org 2 points 7 months ago

But there's a flaw. You've already lost it.

Maybe a different fairly popular but far less likely to be lost pen. How about Lamy Safari (Vista and Al-Star can be used too - same dimensions).

[–] morrowind@lemmy.ml 2 points 7 months ago

I'm tired of how big bananas are now. Small bananas ftw

[–] henfredemars 1 points 7 months ago

It depends what you’re comparing it to. Perhaps someone wants to make something look larger in the photo compared to the mini banana…

What kind of unscrupulous person would do that?
