I. Am. Done.

With work for the year. Out of office on, notifications off. Yeeeahhh. Now to clean up and get packed for a wee getaway.

I am thinking of deleting all social apps for a few weeks. I suspect I will keep jerboa but going to try to have less screen time for a bit. If I don't catch has then have a good one 🍻🍻🍻

Geelong trip was interesting.

I am not going to make such a trip to see the husband's cousins again. I invited them to the gallery and the cafe there, my treat. It's a small place in lovely environs.

The train was cool , fast and efficient.

I meet up and they said there is no parking anyway so let's go to el cheapo shopping mall instead. Even with a denim jacket on I felt over dressed and out of place.

I gave the lovely b'day gift , which was the reason behind the visit. She loved it all.

We had sandwiches at the mall , they paid for themselves, they complained about the price even tho it was super cheap.

After some shopping they took me back to the train station. πŸ«₯

I walked to gallery and gardens, which were beautiful.

Buying an eGift Card for Christmas:
Nath: 'Hey Woolies, I wish to purchase a gift card on your site, but want to delay the gift until Christmas morning. Can this be done?'
Woolies: 'Of course not. If you buy a gift card at 2am, we send a text message to your recipient at 2am. They clearly want this gift right now!'

I'm not going crazy, right? It's a super obvious thing when buying a gift card that the person buying the gift would want to specify a delivery date/time as well as a recipient yeah? I told my work colleague and he reckons I'm an edge case. Most customers would want the gift sent immediately. Even if I wanted it same-day, I'd want the option to send it during waking hours.

Nearly slapped a pixel out of a womans hand on the train today. I often drive out catch the vline in cause its a shit tone more comfortable, and its easy to nap (as a ton of people do). Got woken up by a lady talking/half shouting down the phone about some project plan, but she ends the call with "sorry, your breaking up! I'll see you in 15 minutes anyway". Mother fucker are you serious?! have SOME consideration. even if people around you werent asleep! your gonna see them in 15 minutes anyway.

The director told me today she's resigning, and that there's a wave of resignations coming from everyone else.

It was so good until the new owners took over.

Been talking to the people who have been here for ages. They're absolutely shattered. It was apparently amazing before.

Bad timing I guess.

[–] tombruzzo@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago (1 children)

Let's hope you can line something up and be one of the people leaving for greener pastures as well

Made it to the bellarine.

Chillos growing quickly which is good. Hoping for dem mini-jungle vibes soon. Not sure why the top right ones (thai) are happier than the rest, hope they're not crosses. Habs at the front seem uniform-ish.

Have been doing 60-65 hour weeks at work for over a month now and on the weekends ive been up ladders installing picture rails and setting up all sorts of stuff for the photography business we are starting for my partner. It has been about 5 months since I've had a night of sleep where it haven't woken up at least twice.

I would kill for a full night's sleep.

I’ve escaped work and I’m home already!

Yay

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 10 points 5 months ago (5 children)

yay, day trip by train to Geelong today. I'm wearing comfy clothes, have books to read but do not have Ted in a catpack.

decisions, cardigan or denim jacket πŸ€” crocodile or leopard earrings πŸ€”

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (1 children)

Ooh I'm heading down on the train as well. Might bump into you.

Look out for the one wearing shoes it could be me!

Edit: and if you cave in and get a potato cake from the kiosk at geelong station, they're about a 3/10. No amount of salt will push it over that.

Looks like I'm going to get this job. I put in for the sorts of roles I want and never get anywhere, then recruiters contact me for roles like this and I just smash the interviews.

This one just might work out. Maybe it will be the good job in the area I've been trying to get away from

The self confidence after a haircut is like a drug. Only lasts like two days though. Hmmmm that gives me an idea. Three haircuts a week? Chase that dragon?

OK new scopes booked in on Monday. I am a glutton for punishment and ended up asking for a slightly more thorough cleaning procedure because I was a bit dubious about the results the first time, effectively doubling the amount of slop I have to drink. Merry Christmas to me!

[–] Eagle@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago (1 children)

At least you'll be empty for a Christmas refill!

[–] Pilk@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago

I might have to make some Christmas plans just to take advantage of it, haha.

Good swim.

Dune warning is misleading. that is not someone falling to their demise but rather someone having a good time

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago

That is someone taking a shortcut.

So freaking grateful I have a day off tomorrow. I'm cooked, I don't think I'll do much at uni, but I will catch up on organising token gifts and life admin nonsense. Working out what to take for Xmas lunch next Wednesday that I can carry on the train to the 'Rat (I've decided I'm not driving - save energy and petrol $). It'll be a mostly Sri Lankan style thing, I could do a simple curry or two but I'm conscious of not having the whole v/line carriage smell of it.

Doing some late night work as I caught up with a friend this morning which railroaded my day. Ughh people coming out of the woodwork with new jobs for me to do the week before Christmas. All of which can wait until the new year. I said to myself this week I will only be finishing up projects on the go, and I intend to stick to that.

[–] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago (5 children)

Last week while going through customs my backpack got flagged. Off it goes behind the perspex. Gets to the end. Officer looks at the X-ray. Gives the ok.

This morning, same thing happens. Off goes my very full but underweight bag. Not so nervous this time. I met back up with it at the end but this time he decides to rifle through my bag to find the alleged culprit. I am now curious. My ziplock bag with moisturisers and sunscreens. At first he tries to read them, then he opens the bag up and dives in. Comments such as: "Sometimes these are 125ml, oooo nice moisturiser and lovely".

I was half expecting him to try some on.

While I was packing some clothes into my suitcase in a hurry it fell off the bench and fucking walloped my leg. I don't even remember which part of it hit me. It was an instant "oh fuck" when it was falling but I could move in time

Now I have an about 8cm long red, swollen, very painful bruise on my shin. This happened about 4 hours ago, and I did try to brush it off, but it hurt walking through the shops to go get my roast chicken and I got many stares (I wear shorts). I also don't have a first aid kit or ice pack yet, so uhh, go me I guess. Oh, and I'm a tummy sleeper so it's hurts to lie down πŸ™ƒ

[–] dumblederp@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago

Frozen peas in a towel are a better ice pack than an official ice pack. Plus you can eat them at some point. You can gladwrap it in place if it's not too cold on your leg, hence the towel.

Oopsie afternoon nap. Not like I was going to do much work anyway....

[–] melbaboutown@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago) (3 children)

Finally signed up for flybuys. If I’m spending the money on groceries anyway I might as well get a free kitchen knife or Bunnings gift card for it… Still feels kind of wrong. Even though I already have a Woolies rewards card and probably gave up all privacy long ago.

At least I’m probably confusing their algorithm by buying baby food and bibs for the cat.

spoiler(The pumpkin baby food helps her tummy and encourages her to eat. The bibs are to keep spilled medicine out of her fur.)

I downloaded Thunderbird and set my emails up on it. For some reason it makes me feel 10,000 years old using an email client. But it's great for gmail on your phone as it gets rid of the ads

Decisions decisions.

My boss just told me that the xmas do is this afternoon - but I also have a pre-existing dentist appointment for late this afternoon and there's no possibility of re-scheduling it to a pre-xmas slot. Will have to wait until the new year at least.

So, dentist or xmas party? - so far the dentist is winning.

[–] mysticgreg@aussie.zone 9 points 5 months ago

I'd go to the dentist, much less stressful.

[–] anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 7 points 5 months ago* (last edited 5 months ago)

That’s very short notice from your boss. Depends on what you’re seeing the dentist for and if it can wait, and how you feel about work Xmas parties

I’d pick the dentist, personally πŸ˜†
