The Gulf of Cuba United States Mexico

[–] A_Very_Big_Fan@lemmy.world 10 points 3 months ago (1 children)

This is the objectively correct answer

[–] Frozengyro@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Better add in the I for international waters.

Gulf of I.C.U.M.

[–] Jumi@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

I jizzed in the Gulf

[–] forrcaho@lemmy.world 33 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Who's: a contraction for "who is".

Whose: belonging to whom.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 19 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I’m embarrassed I made that mistake. I absolutely know better. Thanks for the correction.

[–] forrcaho@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

Now I wish I'd sent a DM instead. No need to embarrass you in public, oops. Oh well, next correction I'll be more discreet.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago)

No worries! Your correction was appropriate. I think the edit just took a while to sync across instances. I was embarrassed because I take pride in my writing. It could have been between us, or broadcast globally, and I’d have felt the same.

Thanks for the consideration. Have a good night!

This is just distraction politics. Easy to talk about and have an opinion on, while completely dismantling the country with the other hand.

Trump: Someone get me a sharpie

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago

Throw in a couple of hurricanes for good measure. We can always nuke ‘em.

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 20 points 3 months ago (1 children)

And if you measure it in miles of coastline...

Mexico - 1,743 miles.
US - 1,680 miles.

https://www.clarionledger.com/story/news/2025/02/12/us-google-change-gulf-of-mexico-to-gulf-of-america-after-trump-executive-order/78461485007/

Other sites round up the US portion to an even 1,700, which is STILL short(!)

[–] I_Has_A_Hat@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (2 children)

Does this fully take into account Louisiana? I feel like those river deltas and swamplands add up to a massive amount of what could be considered coastline.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 16 points 3 months ago

That's a whole other can of worms:

The coastline paradox

[–] jordanlund@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Could be part of the "rounding up", same for the Florida Keys.

[–] MsPenguinette@lemmy.world 18 points 3 months ago (2 children)

I never knew there were international waters in the gulf. Interesting!

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 12 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I bet those two pockets have seen some shit.

[–] MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net 2 points 3 months ago

"I ain't seen nuthin."

[–] HonoraryMancunian@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

Seem kinda pointless to me, might as well divvy them up

[–] _chris@lemmy.world 15 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The text of the EO actually only orders renaming of the portion of the gulf that is shown as the American EEZ on that map.

But, much like with everything else in society, the companies who bent over backwards renaming as fast as possible were too dumb to read the actual assignment and / or instead just wanted to gargle the ring.

[–] SpaceCowboy@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 months ago

I doubt Donald Trump read the EO either. And those companies know this, and they know he's a small and petty man.

This whole thing doesn't matter much, it just makes the US looks stupid. It's not the job of these companies to oppose the guy Americans voted for even when he's making the country look stupid. It was the duty of American citizens to vote wisely to prevent guys like Trump from having power, but that didn't happen, so here we are.

Gulf of Embarrassingly Tiny Hands

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 6 points 3 months ago (1 children)

I dunno, but google removed the ability to suggest edits when I looked last.

So I suggested a correction for mar a lago. It should be Turd-o-Lardo

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

You can report Google search results by tapping the three dots to the right of the results.

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) (1 children)

Well no I can’t because I don’t have that spyware on my phone.

And you shouldn’t either.

Edit to clarify, the website has a different interface.

[–] disguy_ovahea@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago (1 children)

You don’t have a web browser?

[–] FuglyDuck@lemmy.world -5 points 3 months ago

Bro.

Read what I said and you’d realize I don’t need your totally unsolicited advice.

In order to make it clear: in order to suggest a change to mar a lago, I’d have to know how to do that.

[–] sp3tr4l@lemmy.zip 5 points 3 months ago

I say we call it uh...

The Burning Sea.

[–] breadsmasher@lemmy.world 4 points 3 months ago

the gulf is the pride america left behind

[–] Kanda@reddthat.com 3 points 3 months ago

There's two international waters, but only one for each nation. Clearly this is the Gulf of international waters

[–] thenextguy@lemmy.world 2 points 3 months ago (1 children)

The Gulf of the Americas?

Maybe it should have corporate sponsorship like football stadiums.

[–] ohellidk@sh.itjust.works 1 points 3 months ago

Gulf of idk

[–] Pussydogger@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

EEZ and teorritorial claims are completely different things!

[–] HorreC@lemmy.world 1 points 3 months ago

if you really wanted to be like this needs renaming, why the fuck didnt you go with "The Gulf of the Americas" not that it touches both north and south. But Gulf of North America doesnt have a nice sound to it
