Hey, don't belittle someone's car like that.

The Prius has actually become respectable since the latest generation came out in 2023.

I was one of those dorks that loved the Prius when it was still goofy looking. A dependable car that will work even if you don't have access to a charging station? And can actually hold a LOT of stuff? Yes, please.

Though yeah the new redesign looks pretty slick.

It wasn't just the look. The previous generations were designed only for people who don't care about the driving experience and only want something to get from point A to B.

There is a saying "it is more fun to drive a slow car fast than a fast car slow", which is mostly true except for the old gens Prius. Zero engineering effort was put on the handling dynamics. The chassis was easily overwhelmed and handled like a brick on a wobblehead the moment you tried to push it a little.

The new gen did not only add nearly 100 horsepower without increasing the fuel consumption, they also stiffened the chassis and better balanced and tuned the suspension. It is no longer a dreadful box for people who don't care about driving anymore. It's still no sportscar by any stretch of the imagination but at least you can have some fun in it now.

TIL. I'm not a car person so thanks for the education. I'm one of those "A to B" people for sure.

My parents had one of the original Priuses and it was awful to drive. Weird upright position, tiny little hard wheels, and an astounding lack of power for something with two motors.

[–] Rai@lemmy.dbzer0.com 5 points 4 months ago (1 children)

ummm akshully they have one motor and one engine 🤓🤓🤓🤓🤓

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I love riding around on my Enginecycle…

[–] Cort@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

Oh, bless your heart. They're called motorcycles because the first one was driven by an electric motor in 1870. Years before Otto & Benz created the engine.

If your self-image is strongly tied to what type of car you drive then not only are you a consumer whore, you're shallow and boring.

[–] DaddleDew@lemmy.world 8 points 4 months ago* (last edited 4 months ago) (1 children)

True. Good thing that it isn't the case here except for the Tesla guy.

[–] blandfordforever@lemm.ee 3 points 4 months ago

I was kind of generally referring to tesla guy, not-prius guy, and all of not-prius guy's reassuring friends. Like, people are so lame if they care about this.

[–] match@pawb.social 8 points 4 months ago

the prius has always been an extremely good line of vehicles

As is often the case, the "fuck your feelings" crowd is extremely fragile when they feel their feelings are being mistreated.

[–] glimse@lemmy.world 27 points 4 months ago (2 children)

If you want to piss them off in online discourse, continually refer to the company as Telsa.

Source: me, who did this a lot on reddit

[–] zedgeist@lemm.ee 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I'm confused. Isn't the company Tesla?

[–] baguettefish@discuss.tchncs.de 5 points 4 months ago

read carefully; telsa

[–] satans_methpipe@lemmy.world 1 points 4 months ago

A tried and true tactic. I avoid capitalizing company names especially macintosh phone branding. It draws out the shills too.

[–] Endymion_Mallorn@kbin.melroy.org 12 points 4 months ago (3 children)

Remember that Fords are also Nazi cars. So have fun with that.

[–] Rogue@feddit.uk 14 points 4 months ago

Henry Ford was the only american named in Mein Kampf. Hitler had a portrait of Ford in his office. Likewise Ford idolised his buddy Hitters

[–] legion02@lemmy.world 13 points 4 months ago

Are the living Fords still nazis? Because Elon looks to have picked up a lot of tendencies from dear grandad.

Which always made me so confused about why the hippies liked Beetles and Microbuses.

[–] Korhaka@sopuli.xyz 10 points 4 months ago

I just show complete disinterest in their Tesla, which is very easy because I genuinely couldn't give a shit about their car.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 5 points 4 months ago

All efforts, great and small.

"Thaaaaaaaaaaanks!"

[–] AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 2 points 4 months ago

Now it’d be the other way around: not letting him forget that he bought into the Musk cult, as much as he’d like to.

[–] ChickenZenphyre@lemmy.world 0 points 4 months ago

Right now I just call them Teslas swasticars. Some laugh, some don't.

[–] Shardikprime@lemmy.world -3 points 4 months ago

We've got a badass here
