Move domain name? (lemmy.world)
submitted 3 months ago* (last edited 3 months ago) by CAVOK@lemmy.world to c/buyeuropean@feddit.uk

I have a domain (.org) that's currently with a US registrar (web.com) that I'm looking to move. Is it possible to move a .org domain to an EU registrar, and do you know of any good ones?

Edit. Thanks guys, the domain expires in a few months so no more money from me to the US. My money for eu jobs.

This should be possible. I don't know how much work it is, but web.com has an article about that: https://www.web.com/help/article/transferring-vs-moving-a-domain

Not sure about good registrars, but eu-alternatives page has that category: https://european-alternatives.eu/category/domain-name-registrar

I personally recommend Austrian world4you: https://www.world4you.com/en - the support is amazing.

Edit: added a link to world4you

As far as I know, OVH has a domain transfer service.

I can recommend them, been a happy customer since 2009 (give or take).

And yes, you can move .org to EU registrar too, you just need AUTH-ID from current provider, which should be available from their portal quite easily.

Its a very simple standardised process.

  1. Go to your current registrar and initiate domain transfer / unlock domain.
  2. You can now initiate transfer with the new registrar.
  3. The old registrar will give you an auth code in some way.
  4. Enter the code in your new registrar.
  5. Update name servers
