In 2008 during the California Proposition 8 controversy, there were was a clever ad suggesting You want to stop gay sex? Let them get married. It showed a gay couple transitioning from honeymooning to blasé cohabitation and even bickering as old spouses are wont to do.

How dare you? I am extremely opposed to sesame Street! Gay marriage is aight tho.

[–] CheeseToastie@lazysoci.al 9 points 2 months ago

Had me in the first half

If being gay was a choice, I think I'd choose it.

[–] JoeBigelow@lemmy.ca 11 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You'll get nowhere with that attitude!

Life is like a penis
most people don't know it
but most people suck
so they usually blow it.

I'd like to be straight, wanna trade?

Bert and Ernie appeared in the pilot episode of Sesame Street in July of 1969. They will enter the public domain on January 1, 2065. In approximately 40 years, it will then be legal for anyone to create and publish hardcore gay pornos featuring the Bert and Ernie characters.

  • limit of 95 years of copyright
  • legality of porn
  • legality of homosexuality
  • legality of self publishing
  • existance of humanity

So many things can change

[–] WoodScientist@sh.itjust.works 9 points 2 months ago

Sure. But if civilization collapses in the meantime, then there won't be anyone enforcing copyright laws. Or copyright could be abolished entirely. IDK what the future holds. Obviously things can radically change between now and then. The best predictions we can make of the future are just extrapolating the present forward.

To bigots, seeing other people's happiness is like swallowing a knife. Miserable creatures.

[–] bricklove@midwest.social 22 points 2 months ago

You can tell Ernie had a supportive family growing up but Bert was forced live in the closet. I'm glad they found each other though.

there's an old gay couple at my church and they are so sweet sitting together ❤️

My dads not only had separate beds, they had their own bedrooms. Of course this didn't mean one wouldn't spill crumbs in the other's bed.

[–] FooBarrington@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I mean it makes sense, why would you spill crumbs in your own?

[–] semperverus@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

One of you must be a crumb guzzler

Angels on the street, freaks in the sheets.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 7 points 2 months ago

Growing up in the 80s, Bert and Ernie were the most realistically stable television couple. They argued but loved each other, no question about it.

That's some real shit.

[–] iamericandre@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Where devil worship?

[–] seeigel@feddit.org 6 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Gay marriage doesn't come with the implicit expectation of rising children. Imagine all the frustrated parents struggling with the many obstacles that our societies maintain against rising children and their surpressed realization that they could have defied social expectations and just stayed childlessly happy.

The framed picture would suggest Ernie is shorter, but his knees reach the end of the chair he’s in… 🤔

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 3 points 2 months ago

Well, the same height at the shoulders. Bert just has a freakishly long head.

[–] Xenny@lemmy.world 1 points 2 months ago (1 children)

What does that say about ernie? 🤔

[–] samus12345@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago

Probably a bottom.

They actually were a gay couple according to one of the show's writers. Modeled after him and his partner, Arnie and Mark.

[–] null@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

To be clear, they were written from the perspective of a gay man, with their interactions modelled after his experiences, but they are not canonically "gay" (they have no sexual orientation).

[–] Ceruleum@lemmy.wtf 1 points 2 months ago

They both have a big hairy hand in their bottoms tho!

[–] abbadon420@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You know they'll just turn this argument against you. They'll say something about gays being pedophiles or something. Or maybe they're allready saying that. I can't keep up with what's the hottest, trending, q-anon fake news lie these days.

[–] laurelraven@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 months ago

Not hot and trending, they've been calling gay people that for a long time
