Reminder that Donald Trump admires the Tiananmen Square massacre and told Playboy all about it in an interview right after it happened

He’s lucky it isn’t an Israeli tank, else he would have gotten run over.

Guess Feng Zhang just dropped his legs on the floor because he didn't want them.

Why did you cut off the part where he climbs up the tank and starts yelling at the tank driver?

Why is the clip zoomed in to not show that the tank is driving away from the square?

there are multiple versions of the clip and the associated lore floating around and if you don't spend enough time with what happened at the time you can easily be convinced of a variety of viewpoints

[–] IndustryStandard@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

The cut off clip is meant to imply a lot of things which did not happen.

Occam's razor, you're on the Internet, bad crops are practically a meme. Personally, I distinctly remember watching the entire uncropped video multiple times throughout grade school and high school in the US

Americans (in 1775): Declares war with one of the most powerful empires in history over taxes

The French: Decapitates the upper classes due to hoarding wealth and creating class imbalance

Haitians: Fights against their former masters in the name of freedom and the end of slavery

The French (again): Fights back against one of the most cruel regimes in history to free their occupied homeland from Nazi rule

Americans (now): "Oh I hope that if the message on my sign is passive aggressive enough the fascists will leave the government out of shame."

The Boston Tea party got started because of a tax cut from the British Empire. It was a whole different bunch declaring war than what people are lead to believe.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Yeah, you need the wealthy with time and resources to be on your side or else you are just the peasants revolting which they all already think we are.

[–] biofaust@lemmy.world 4 points 2 months ago (1 children)

No, you need crime. The tax cut would have affected the tea smuggling profits.

[–] Krauerking@lemy.lol 4 points 2 months ago

Yeah. The smugglers were making bank though.
Its kinda the rule that the government is filled with old mafia once they realize they can make a lot of money being the government.

So I guess in this case we need the companies that are acting as mafia to want the change. Which brings us back to the wealthy.

gro-cer-ies…such a strange and mythical word

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 months ago

Some people call it food.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 12 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You have titled this as though nobody has ever seen it before.

[–] KMAMURI@lemmy.world 23 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (3 children)

I titled it to poke at 'murica for their inaction against their dictatorial regime because it is affecting my family and my country.

[–] Nougat@fedia.io 15 points 2 months ago

That's a deep cut, and I missed it.

I'm sorry that my government is making a mess for you and yours. But please don't think that there is a lack of action. There have been basically nonstop (very liberal and mostly toothless) protests since before the election even, but the news refuses to report on them. Furthermore, there is a LOT going on from folks who would rather not advertise how they are resisting.

A resistance to a fascist government cannot, by it's nature, be public facing, so you'll never know everything that people are sacrificing and doing every day. But they are. We are.

[–] walktheplank@lemmy.world 5 points 2 months ago

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemm.ee 2 points 2 months ago (1 children)

Oh my God that tank was going out of its way too run that guy over! ~/s~

[–] PanArab@lemm.ee 5 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I saw the full video, he eventually climbs up the tank and then is forcefully taken away. He never gets run over.

[–] JeSuisUnHombre@lemm.ee 6 points 2 months ago

*taken away by other protesters, not the army, to be clear

[–] jaybone@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago

He was clearly outside of the crosswalk.

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 2 points 2 months ago
