Shadows are still perplexing.

Today is a tough day (as I'm sure it is for others). So it's do sweet fuck all and try and stay even keeled.

At least it's a beautiful day.

I dont really speak to my mother anymore. tonight, for the first time in several decades, I got a little baked, chilled by the fire and then decided not to worry about Mothers Day at all...

Just wanted to acknowledge the people here who have complicated relationships with their mothers, have lost children, whose mothers have passed, and any expectant mothers, single dads, foster carers or pet owners ❀️❀️

The other day, a neighbour posted that they were selling their coffee table, and it came with a free cat bed, as her cat has never used it.

I don't want or care for glass coffee tables, but I asked if I could buy the cat bed - she said it was free and she'd leave it outside her apartment for me!

I grabbed it, thanked her, and gave it to Mickey a few days ago. The top can come off so I detached it and put treats in there for him over the last few days.

Last night, he slept in it!

Last time I rented a property the condition report was a carbon copy checklist of a couple of pages, with a few lines to add comments. This time I have 170 pages, with multiple photos of everything. There are 9 photos of the front door knob.

[–] Catfish@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

That is insane. I think our last one was 16 pages. It was all online because Covid, pity anyone with a data limit.

Good morning possums. I’ll be home later, so please make sure the key’s under the mat

I found one of my friends from the park face down next to his car yesterday. I think the old bloke had just tripped and no longer had the fitness to get himself back up. Helped him up and got him into his car. Helped pack away his fly fishing stuff that he practices with. He said he was okay from there but I reckon I should've drove him home. I was on the dog walk so finished that then went back to the park to check on him and the car was gone ~40 minutes later.

I had another therapy client who fell at home and couldn't get back up. In his 90s. Luckily we were close enough that I knew where his spare key was and alarm code so I let myself in for the appointment even though he wasn't answering the door. Found him dehydrated on the floor, got him a drink an called the jewbalance (hatzolah).

Lesson is, don't let your fitness slide so much that you can't get up off the ground... if you can help it.

[–] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 10 points 1 week ago

don’t let your fitness slide

Ooh I'm witnessing this first hand right now too and it's very true.

Who'd Iike to help me set a bonfire? Yeah, no hallmark holiday here thanks.

It's a nice coincidence that YarraByte chose a lotus for today's emoji as tomorrow is Vesak Day!

Today I'm taking it fairly easy. My biggest task is to make this delicious prawn curry (incl shallow frying the heads first for extra flavour). One of the few recipes that DON'T use tomato - I'm sick of it being in every other curry recipe out there. Beans, eggplant, gourds, greens, all with tomato! It's not necessary! Have some balance.

Btw - they gave me the prawns in a big ziplock bag type thing, instead of wrapped up. Is this new? The ziploc didn't close very well and I nearly dropped one of my items into a pile of prawns during checkout.

Vesak day - is that the same as Buddha Jayanti? Either way πŸͺ·πŸ™πŸ»

Edit: yes it is.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 7 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

tonight I am making a mango curry that has no tomato

also, TIL about Vesak Day

Weird neighbours aside it’s been a nice day. I spent it cleaning and hanging out with fur daughter. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ofjtX6NT-hY&pp=0gcJCdgAo7VqN5tD

She didn’t get me flowers or make breakfast but that’s because she’s not allowed near my credit card and can’t reach the stove.

[–] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

she's awesome 🐱

Back in melbs.

Hit pot hole on way back, tyre fucked, spent 2hrs in a BP car park (admittedly with a nice view of the you yangs and a jackas) waiting for dude to fix.

7/10. Was actually quite lovely out there.

Anyone else notice the price of fuel since the Election?

It was about $1.70/l before the Coalition announced their 12 month excise discount of 25c. Then overnight fuel went up to $2/l.

Now that the Coalition has well-and-truely lost, fuel is back down to $1.60/l.

I found some of my old sketchbooks from my early twenties… there’s not much there but it seems like I was actually fairly good back then before really learning anything.

I often just copied pictures I liked without knowing how to sketch but it was very detailed and somehow I copied hands (???). But now there’s resources available I’ve completely got the chokes.

Wish I could get that ability back

lovely day down at the beach . Late sun casting dapples on sand and shadows from rocks

When you've had more than your daily allowance of treats and think being cute will get you some more.

Also, playing Crysis on ps5 with Ray tracing. 15 years ago youd need a fucking supercomputer to get that happening lol.

I'm old.

It doesn't look like much what with all the prawn heads and pandan leaves etc (and my total lack of making it look nice - recipe) but HOLY SHIT is this a mind-blowing prawn curry. Even frying the heads in oil at the start smelt divine. I confess it might've worked better with lime rather than tamarind but it's still so deep in flavours! I also went ham on the chilli (Kashmiri chilli powder, black pepper, and a couple of v spicy dried chillies). Can't wait to taste what it will be like TOMORROW, my god...

prawnvaganza

Deveining the prawns is a bitch though... the tract keeps snapping and then I can't pull a segment out. I'll need to improve my technique.

That was several hours worth of cooking between that, the cluster beans, and the ginormous pot of dal with cluster beans. But now I'm set for quite a few days. And thanks to my handy dishwasher I can now relax for the rest of the evening. Yay!

We have one at work that stands over you for snacks. Doesn't like fruit, tolerates banana bread but will take cheese, crackers and meat from your hand. I'm hoping the friendliness stays for swooping season.
