my objection to taking this 747-800 from Qatar is not that it’s an attempt to bribe the president. It is not it’s corrupted. It is not that its a violation of the emoluments clause.

Hid problem is not with the violations of law or the very apparent impropriety in accepting highly valuable gifts from for foreign heads of state with an agenda. It's only the who that state is that is the bother. If it were, say, Russia? He would be fine with it.

Reading the whole statement, I think he's saying all those things are problems, especially the Pam Bondi connection, but he's more offended that it was built with profits off our war dead. If he didn't care at all about the rest he wouldn't mention them. He's just adding a Conservative argument against it.

I've been subscribed to this asshole for nearly a decade (keeping tabs on what that side is thinking and talking about) and this kind of hypocritical positioning is par for the course.

His recent take on Kilmar Abrego Garcia was repeatedly reiterating that he had credible ties to MS-13 and that the president totally has every right to just boot this man to another country but he was worried that Trump's defiance of the courts might endanger qualified immunity for federal officials.

If all of these Republicans, including members of congress like Rand Paul, are complaining, where are their actual teeth?

If they have even the tiniest bit of integrity left, they should be saying, "If he accepts this plane, which would be a huge crime, I will personally do everything in my power to ensure that he is impeached and removed from office."

[–] JailElonMusk@sopuli.xyz 23 points 2 weeks ago

That would require Republicans to find both their spine and their conscience.

Like RFK Jr. in a sewage filled creek, I'm not holding my breath.

I checked out r/conservative to see if this would finally get through to them but they all think it’s fantastic. They don’t believe it’s going to be for personal use. They think it’s not actually worth half a billion because it’s used and 13 years old. They think it’s awesome that he “saved” tax payers money on a new plane.

We are so fucked.

They are putting on a theater of pretending to be disapproving so it makes all the times they suck up to him seem as if it coming from a source of integrity by pointing to the times they disagreed.

[–] raltoid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Teeth? Oh you sweet summer child, this is just theater. They want to be able to say they spoke out against it later, doing something is literally not even an ephemeral thought in the back of their mind.

Man, have I got news for this guy.

[–] thedruid@lemmy.world 31 points 2 weeks ago

he has no problems with the bribery and corruption part. that means what he's mad about is he didn't get an offer

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 15 points 2 weeks ago

Aww that's cute. The conservative hate monger thinks trump cares about Americans.

Everyone who works with trump gets shit on, conservative hate monger! No Exceptions!

[–] barneypiccolo@lemm.ee 8 points 2 weeks ago

The spoiled little boy wants his shiny new toy, and he doesn't like being told No, so will have a presidential temper tantrum.

[–] jagged_circle@feddit.nl 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Does he realize how many Americans his policies are killing?

[–] Linktank@lemmy.today 2 points 2 weeks ago

If he does, he certainly doesn't care.

[–] Ironfist79@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

Pretty sure Trump is okay with that.

[–] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 3 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I don't understand, is Trump just trying to be an edgelord? Or is it the only thing he has left to convince his cult that he is playing 5D chess? Or is he simply a moron?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Or is he simply a moron?

Are you joking?

[–] Karyoplasma@discuss.tchncs.de 0 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I just find it difficult to believe that one can live for 79 years and be that stupid.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

And yet here we are.

[–] SpaceShort@feddit.uk 1 points 2 weeks ago

Openly saying that they are fine with corruption.
