Lies of P. Had to take a break from video games for a month and now I can finally finish this one off, I sense I am nearing the end. Seems like I will be just in time for upcoming DLC.
Soulslike - Discussion, News, Memes
This is a community for discussion, news, and memes pertaining to the video game sub-genre "soulslike".
Given Lemmy's size, the definition of soulslike may be treated relatively loosely. While games like the numerous FromSoft titles, the recent Star Wars Jedi games, Lies of P, Nioh and similar games should be the focus, games that incorporate soulslike elements - like Hollow Knight and Blasphemous, for example - may also be discussed here.
Basic Lemmy-quette applies. Additionally, since flairs don't exist yet, please do make sure to include a marker to denote what game your post is about in square brackets for clarity's sake. An example could be:
[BB] This enemy is so difficult!
or
[DS1] Anyone struggling with the gargoyles?

Awesome! How are you enjoying the game so far? Where are you right now?
Its pretty cool, it definitely is not trying to hide the inspiration from souls and sekiro. I'm at the alchemist island and switching weapons just to try different move sets. Like most soulslike games if you get good at parrying and dodging it seems like any weapon can carry you to the end. I do like how the move sets are tied to weapon handles that can be attached to the actual blades you upgrade, its a neat idea to let you get a different damage type or weight on a moveset you like. I think my only complaint is that it is fairly linear, there are shortcuts to open up but there's never any doubt about which way to go. When I got stuck for a moment on the swamp boss I didnt feel like I needed to go explore and find things to help, I just had to rail on him until I got it or go grind for level ups.
I liked the Isle of Alchemists. It's a pretty long and tough level overall, but I like the atmosphere and music quite a bit. Feels like a good culmination of the buildup throughout the game.
Oh yea, the weapons system is amazing. Allows for lots of optimisation and experimentation.
It's definitely on the more linear side, true. It was a good change of pace for me, personally, since Elden Ring was just way too big for me, but at times, it feels like it is a little too linear.
I adore the game, though, and it's definitely second in my top 3. Enjoy the rest of your journey!
Elden Ring heh. Going to start learning some speed run strats.
Elden Ring randomizer. Not any sort of challenge run, just having a fresh experience
I’ve started up Elden Ring again to get ready for Nightreign in a couple of weeks. It’s important to stretch those rolling muscles.
Another playthrough of Elden Ring. There's just so much to it and I forget so much that I need to progress. Hopefully will finish the base game and try to get through SOTE next week.
After that I think I'm finally ready to try Sekiro for the first time. I'm a bit intimidated by what I have seen so far, but I figure enough determination should get me through it.
Sekiro definitely plays a lot different than classic soulslikes. You just need to embrace what the games throws at you in terms of mechanics and try to relearn your muscle memory, then you'll be good. Parries are the name of the game. If I got through it, you'll get through it :D (basically my second soulslike)
I appreciate the advice and encouragement!
I'm probably gonna play a little more Khazan if I get the time with my upcoming exam on Monday. I've recently unlocked the third waystone (?) and am looking forward to see what's in store there
