You must post before you leave

Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).

Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.

Use content warnings and/or mark as NSFW when appropriate. Most posts with content warnings likely need to be marked NSFW.

Most 196 posts are memes, shitposts, cute images, or even just recent things that happened, etc. There is no real theme, but try to avoid posts that are very inflammatory, offensive, very low quality, or very "off topic".

Bigotry is not allowed, this includes (but is not limited to): Homophobia, Transphobia, Racism, Sexism, Abelism, Classism, or discrimination based on things like Ethnicity, Nationality, Language, or Religion.

Avoid shilling for corporations, posting advertisements, or promoting exploitation of workers.

Proselytization, support, or defense of authoritarianism is not welcome. This includes but is not limited to: imperialism, nationalism, genocide denial, ethnic or racial supremacy, fascism, Nazism, Marxism-Leninism, Maoism, etc.

Moderator Guidelines

Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

Honestly, I used to make more of the memes I posted, but they take a lot of effort and the memes will sometimes not land, even when I think they're hilarious. This wasn't an issue when I felt I could post whenever I feel like, but as people started to look up to me in femcelmemes and as I became the sole moderator for a time, I quickly realized my oc wouldn't be enough. I couldn't compel myself to make them on demand.

At some point I decided I wanted there to be a new post everyday in femcelmemes. If other people were posting consistently, I often wouldn't post at all. When there were stretches of no one else posting, I wanted to make sure I had a backlog of good stuff to post. This rule is entirely made up out of my self interested desire to keep the com I fell in love with active. I love the vibe and want it to be a place people can rely on for girly funnies.

I'm fine if I can't meet my funni quotas on my own, because the best stuff is always made in collaboration with others. No single individual is so talented that they can make all the good shit; we just need to combine forces and share memes freely. Nothing would make me happier than having my oc shared on any random platform, just like I enjoy reposting memes from any random platform.

What I enjoy most nowadays is sharing oc from creators I enjoy and want others to experience. I share shaveposts and shenposts, GRS and the finest deranged gay memes I can find, and of course I share low effort panels from the ungodly amount of yuri I read. I just want other people to be able to enjoy my hobbies (٥↼_↼)

I try to attribute artwork, but it's hard to know who wrote a meme unless there's an unmistakable style (like your stuff has). For example:

There is no real way to know that I personally cobbled this meme together after googling "blue shark" and finding it utterly adorable. My personal story doesn't matter, because it's a meme I made to be generalized. I just want other people to feel the joy of doting over the real life blahaj.

It's not a feeling I own or care to own. That's not the way I view all memes, but the way I want mine to be. I want my jokes to be retold by people who will never know me. I find it magical that we can have both highly distinctive memes that capture an individual's personality and totally anonymized memes that capture common ideas.

hmmm thads tru...

oki fine, hav it ur way...,,..

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You underestimate my ability to think all sharks are cute

all sharks are cute, but I think blahaj is especially adorable 💖

bein a mod doesn force u to make funis, u kno?

There should be someone to create activity in just created communities (or in abandoned communities if one wishes to resurrect it). People can't post in your community if they don't even know it exists - and posting stuff is the main way to tell others about this new place. It usually requires a lot of posts to break through the unending flow of 196 content.

yup, and as someone who goes directly to coms individually, not browsing by subscriptions or all, and only sorts by new, I like seeing new memes in a com whenever I check in the morning. For the weirdos like me, not having daily content makes me check it less often. I only catch up every couple of months once most of the discussions have already run their course.

Smorty you’re too good to go mainstream because you’re the cult classic. Peak 196. Underrated gem. 💎

(Also love the jaggies in a very sensorial way.)

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 6 points 6 days ago

awwwwwww thanksies!! <3

i dun think im an "underrated gem"... thad wording has kinda lost meaning cuz of game journalists n whatnot...

my funis r jus not as generally applicable as the funis copied from other platforms -

so i feel it makes sense kinda - yesyes.

alsoalso yeash! i always use the low resolution for the funis so its right in the middle of pixel art n higher res stuff ~

it retains the crunchiness bt alsuu the kinda smoothness, which is fun ~ ~

OC is great, and always welcome. But one thing I really appreciate about memes, is that they transcend ownership. Theyre made to spread and go viral, with no intentions but to be funny (generally speaking of course). Its such a breath of fresh air in this world where everything is copyrighted, everything is there to make money or give someone fame. Memes themselves truly transcend our capitalist structure and I dont want that gone, either.

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

oki fine... im srri, ur right....

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 9 points 1 week ago

Im not "right," Im simply sharing how I feel, my opinion on the matter. I also think comparing vote counts isnt a healthy outlook. If 60 people upvoted your post, and 90 people upvoted a meme, I understand the feeling of "I put so much more effort into my meme specifically for here,* but 60 people still took the time to click the button that says you made their day better. And the mene with 90 votes? It was selectively taken to be posted here from presumably many more that werent as good, or it wouldnt be shared cross platforms. Not really fair.

How do you make the cool backgrounds? Is it painted manually with digital brushes?

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 6 days ago (1 children)

oh - yesyes its drawn "by hand" with some brushes..

i layered

  • som airbrush with different colors
  • some large colorful paint-brush dots
  • some paint-sprickles droplets all over
  • som digital cool lookin rectangles brush

n thads it.. layers make doing this... layering so easy! <3

all layers have a lower opacity, to allow seeing all of em.

[–] OrganicMustard@lemmy.world 1 points 5 days ago

You picked really nice colors

[–] Foxfire@pawb.social 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I do, and have, posted OC here and to other communities. I pretty much have a rule that this account will only ever post things I've made, photos I've taken, things like that. This also comes with the caveat that I simply don't create all that much, and when I do, it's likely not relevant to a lot of communities anyway.

Only thing I've created this past month was an FSF memorabilia action unboxing video of a plush GNU I won. Not exactly the meme centric type of post 196 largely appreciates lol. If I create something I feel fits in the future though, I'll post it!

[–] Smorty@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 6 days ago

yisyis thads suprr cool! <3
