procrastination of drawing one
I don't know why others don't but I'll say why I do, which is that I noticed people were remembering my username whether I had an image or not, so why not have an image? And it was early days, still is, so I figured... may as well be the first static.
Maybe it's just that Sync is an outdated mess, but I can't even see your profile pic. I can see others, just not yours.

Avatars are a psychological trick useful for building up sunk cost fallacy and making a user more likely to personally identify with a product. I don't have social media avatars for the same reason I don't have "nabisco" tattooed on my asscheek.
i havent set it to discord either, or anywhere else either for that matter. Only for steam, but that is because i set it when i was child and i havent wanted to get rid of it for nostalagia's sake and because i cant think of anything better.
it just feels unnecessary
The Voyager app doesn't even show your avatar. So I didnt even know we could all set one since I use this app so much.
I forgot.
I'm too lazy to search for the image I usually use.
None of my reddit accounts had avatars either. I would get banned so quickly it didn't make sense.
If it seems like Lemmy is a more welcoming place, I might make the effort. Not sure yet.
Mine's tied to my gravatar from 15 years ago otherwise I wouldn't have one. I'm not here to have a profile picture lol

I find both avatars and display names annoying and distracting. If they're enabled by default, I turn them off.
