The only time a "quick call" makes sense is if it's a video call, especially if someone might need to share their screen. Sometimes troubleshooting an issue is easier if you can see it happening live.

I would much rather take a video call with screen sharing any day than try to figure out what the hell someone is talking about over email. Most problems are user error and it's so much faster to see them doing it in real time.

My favorite type of troubleshooting is "watching them do it so they're careful to not mess up" which often fixes the problem.

Sometimes I ask them to give me a summary of the problem before the call, so I can have some context.

Sometimes if I'm lucky they'll rubber duck themselves into a solution.

But sometimes it just helps me context switch to whatever they're going to talk about.

Every fucking LinkedIn recruiter trying to push some short term contract position attempting to replace 3+ FTEs the parent company laid off.

No but see some concepts can only be encoded and transmitted as sounds, not as letters or pictures.

There's this great human invention called musical notation

I mean like 'lets have a meeting' stuff.

I am reliably informed that invoking information theory and things like musical notation is ableist.

Sorry. I don't make the rules, but reading music makes you a bigot.

Wouldn't requiring me to hear the sounds be ableist too?

I am informed that it does not. No.
