Big thanks to everyone yesterday for the kind advice and support for the ol' girl.

Sometimes it's difficult to speak about health concerns to others and be listened to, but not here which I'm very grateful for.

I know I should get over it, but do you think it's 'ok' to be miffed about donating something to someone and not even getting a thank you in return?

It's been a month. I am mostly over it, but from time to time it comes to mind and it bugs me as someone who lives in a world thinking they've never mattered.

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 10 points 2 weeks ago

If thanks isn't the first word that comes out of your mouth when given something, then there's something wrong with you.

Yeah, I'd be pissed off.

Yes absolutely. It's basic manners.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

Send them a note asking if they like it.

[โ€“] StudChud@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

I think that's a normal reaction to not receiving thanks - it's a simple way of showing gratitude.

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 8 points 2 weeks ago

If it's a person I donated something to I'd be pretty annoyed but I've been more and more noticing how people lack the common courtesy to use just a little bit of manners, which goes a long way.

Trying a new gym class tonight and Iโ€™m actually very nervous. My fitness has slipped so much, am looking for something to inspire me!

eCommerce launch today at work, quite exciting. This is the whole reason I took this role and it should be a game changer for me going forward

Good luck mate!

Good luck. ๐Ÿ™‚

Just been informed an old coworker has passed away. He always made me laugh. The world has lost a good man.

[โ€“] Seagoon_@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

I'm so sorry.

Beach, I will be sure to wear a hat and a windproof jacket ๐ŸŒž๐Ÿ’จ๐ŸŒŠ

So many pelicans today, must have been at least fifty. When the wind started gusting and a little rain started they hunkered down tucking their chin onto their breast.

Donโ€™t you love when youโ€™re driving along listening to some dramatic music and just as the music swells, you happen to look over as the sun is breaking through the clouds? Beautiful!

Winter solstice this weekend!

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

How does one celebrate a winter solstice?

[โ€“] SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Feast, light candles, make lanterns/wreaths, drink mulled wine? I plan on just cheering that the days will start getting a smidge longer!

You have been charged with 3 counts of supplying out of date pepperoni to your family. How do you plead?

Not guilty, Your Honor ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Cheesus! Pepperoni is preserved, goddamit. If no one dies or gets sick, the preservation worked.

Still sick as fuck. Taking small joys in Selkirk the cat and kids apparently staging protest marches in Roblox (which I have never played, but whatever)

Yesterday YL needed permission to go on an excursion. Yeah yeah sure. Then she says "oh dad. You'll love this. We're going to see &$#@%?". I had no idea what she even said but he got really excited (he doesn't get excited about much) and then there was a lot of nerd talk and I felt left out.

So this morning I went back to the permission slip and it said "Particle accelerator". I googled and I still have no fucking clue as to what that is but I learnt that we have the only one in Australia here in Melbourne.

I guess that's a fun fact for those who know what that is.

[โ€“] Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The one down at Monash? Oooh jelly! It's quite fascinating. Basically a big tunnel circle underground, with machines that can squirt atoms/molecules etc. at very high speeds at items in each target zone. Like a very big roundabout with high speed atom cannons instead of roads leading off it. This helps people find out what the items in the target zone are made of and their internal structure. Super useful for mining, engineering, medical stuff and a host of other stuff.

I went on an excursion to that as well when I was in HS, must have been 2009 or 08, it was very new at that time! It's so cool! The Australian Synchrotron!

Basically, it's a big tube with electromagnetic fields, and they use it to make atoms and particles go super fast - it helps with particle physics research!

[โ€“] CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

There was certainly much excitement in the air!

Gaaaaaah! Partner will not use her phone as an alarm, but does not wake up in time, meaning I have to consistently wake her up else she'll be late for work. Also, meaning it's up to me to get the kids going for school and make lunches so they are not late..... Not every day but at least a few times a week....GAAAAAAH! Infuriating.

Physical alarm clock? Smart watch that has an alarm?

You shouldn't be responsible for waking her up and doing parenting duties on her behalf. My mum always made school lunches the night before, which was always a lot easier than making them the morning of.

my uniseals for patching the tank interlinks came on Monday but I threw my back out on Sunday so I couldn't get into the tanks yesterday and while better today, it's too cold for me to be dipping my arthritic paws into tanks full of fucking ice water. Why is life so unkind.

Today was not a great day to realise I'd left my rain jacket in the work car. Luckily I nabbed a park close to the library and don't have to walk far with an umbrella. Wish me all the focus and concentration to get my presentation ready by tomorrow arvo - I'm going to start by creating one diagram summarising my entire method and two maps that need to go in my report anyway

[โ€“] Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

Welp, it must be some kind of divine intervention or something but my presentation has been postponed at the last minute to some day next week. I'm still going to work towards finishing up to present to my supervisor tomorrow arvo, I NEED URGENT DEADLINES OR MY BRAIN WON'T WORK.

Rebound class (mini trampolines!) was SO fun. Already can't wait to do it again!

Trampolines! That sounds super fun.

Dream 1:

Guitarist teaches people the value of music. The dream somehow turns into action movie about guitarist saving a country from some kind of chemical warfare.

The guitarist character is a guy from my team at work. He does not play guitar.

Dream 2:

Became a Buddhist.

Some magic food that will keep me awake and alert for the last half hour of work and the drive home, whilst still letting me sleep well when I get home to bed.

[โ€“] Eagle@aussie.zone 6 points 2 weeks ago

A full bladder used to do the trick to keep me awake for the drive home

Injured finger from last week is still sore and a bit swollen.

My guess is torn tendon but seeing GP end of the week

Definitely not broken, and better than last week but still not healing as fast as I'd like.

Stupid body doing stupid stuff getting stupidly injured.

Up since 330 and I can't get back to sleep once I'm awake ๐Ÿ˜ด took the opportunity to get a haircut before work at least - which was long overdue. I wanna go homeeee

[โ€“] Duenan@aussie.zone 5 points 2 weeks ago

I'm cold and wet.

Was really yucky outside, combination of really cold wind and rain, I honestly think so far this has been the worst morning I've experienced so far this year.

I hate assignments. I have four due next week and am only done with research for one of them. And it's going to take me ages to research and write each one, so I can't hold myself to do each assignment in two days. Fuck me.
