Nice tape drive

[–] grte@lemmy.ca 16 points 4 months ago (3 children)

A roll of packing tape costs ten euros?!

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 20 points 4 months ago

€1 for the tape and €9 for a six-pack of beer.

[–] urheber@discuss.tchncs.de 8 points 4 months ago

The bus ticket to the store cost 5€

[–] EtherWhack@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

There's duct tape too.

Every person that is truly good with computers that I have ever met has had a build like this at least once in their life.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 6 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Ooh I once had a dell office unit with a 1060 running of a separate PSU.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 4 points 4 months ago (1 children)

How did you manage the different power switches? I was considering this before finding a hp cable adapter.

Power supplies. I think auto correct got me there.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

I used the default one for CPU and that and had the other one with a 6pin for the GPU and a short on one of the pins for the 24pin to make it turn on.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Whoa, you manually shorted the second PSU. Here I was considering binding the signal and ground with jumpers.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Nah the secondary gpu had a power switch at the back and a single short on the 24pin. That's it.

[–] SpikesOtherDog@ani.social 2 points 4 months ago (1 children)

Did you power on the video card first? Any hardware failures? I'm genuinely interested as someone with more power supplies than sense.

[–] Wizard_Pope@lemmy.world 3 points 4 months ago

I think I did power the GPU first. I had no failures that I can rmemeber.

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago

I had my PC totally open, with a classic standing room fan taped to it during a summer.

Nvidia drivers.

OP's spirit.

[–] wakest@piefed.social 5 points 4 months ago

This is what computers were meant to look like

[–] Lembot_0004@discuss.online 5 points 4 months ago

Well, if it works...

[–] DarrinBrunner@lemmy.world 4 points 4 months ago (3 children)

You only need two tools.

If it moves and it shouldn't: Duct Tape.

If it doesn't move, but it should: Hammer.

[–] Cooljimy84@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Ive heard the "you only need three tools"

If it moves and it shouldn't: duct tape

If it doesn't move and it should: wd40

If it doesn't work and it should: hammer

[–] carrylex@lemmy.world 5 points 4 months ago

Hammer

Not WD-40?

[–] Kolanaki@pawb.social 3 points 4 months ago

Hammer

I think you mean WD-40, my dude.

[–] Rhaedas@fedia.io 4 points 4 months ago

Now you can channel a few more watts into the CPU/GPU since you've removed the need for fans draining the power.

Lookit Fancypants M^c^Moneybags!

I had an open slab of cardboard for my first homebuild. Airflow was excellent, but had to chase the cat away from it.
