You probably already know, but it's never good to answer scam calls. All it does is show them that the number is valid and someone will answer. The same for spam texts. Never text STOP or anything like that because the people on the other end aren't real companies and are absolutely not following guidelines regarding opt out. All it does is signal that someone is getting the text and not savvy enough to just ignore it.

100%, but we have been expecting calls, and these have been coming in appearing from "local" phone numbers.
It's infuriating.
But if I do get a scam call, I will tag it so the next time that same number calls, we know. Unfortunately, they change their numbers so often, that it's impossible to know.
Previously, they used to always call with an easily identifiable scam number, like "V23426232425", and we'd ignore those (although, they'd fill our voicemail up pretty quickly).
With texts, I ignore and block the numbers.
This is why when I moved I kept my old phone number with the old area code. Since I know only a handful of people still in that area code and have them in my phone, when I get a call with that area code I immediately know it's a scammer trying to make it look like a local call. The fact that caller id can still be spoofed at this day and age is absolutely mindblowing to my little brain. I remember in the 80's when caller id came out, and here we sit with a 40+ year old bug in the system....
A few years ago I got fed up with the scam calls and even worse, scam voicemails if i denied the call. I started accepting scam calls and immediately muting my mic. The line stays connected and usually silent from 15-40 seconds and then disconnects.
The amount of scam calls I received went from several a week to a few a year. I've had two so far this year. It's possible my number is being marked as non-working.

FTFY. Nothing new here, has been going on ever since the "Medicare Part C" bullshit.
