There were multiple endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game. Same for the two DLCs.

The 'good' endings were in the base game she confronts the winter and succeeds, returns to Geralt as a father figure, and lives on as a witcher. Then in the Blood & Wine DLC, Geralt basically retires in his own vineyard.

They need to release a fake "Witcher 4" that's just an older Geralt moping around his vineyard bitching about how his knees hurt. All of his quests would be things like pestering his workers about how badass he used to be, going to town to return a watermelon to the fruit vendor because of a mushy spot he didn't notice when he purchased it, shit like that.

All the while, the townsfolk would slip idle chatter about crazy shit that Ciri's doing off camera.

will America ever wake up?

We recently elected one of the most vile humans to walk this earth, not in spite of, but because of his open malice. We're not asleep. We see what's happening, and most American voters can't get enough of it, cuz we're nearly as vile as the orange Nazi we just put in charge.

So... no, probably not.

That was my belief for quite a while. There's certainly no shortage of stupidity, but the real problem is that people do understand the evil shit they vote for, and they fucking love it.

Look at the Trump admin: he didn't trick us into voting for him by giving some 'on paper' bs about why the things he does is somehow good; he just got on stage and started shitting on veterans, disabled people, women, immigrants, etc. The majority of voters looked at that and said "YUP! THAT'S MY GUY!!"

We're (collectively) just fucking evil. Idk if there's a fix for that.

[–] Sterile_Technique@lemmy.world 22 points 22 hours ago (1 children)

Iirc that's actually pretty common. Well, maybe not 'common' but way less rare than you'd expect - it's one of those things that goes undiagnosed most of the time cuz people think it's just a mole and don't put any thought into it.

Genetically speaking, we have 'milk lines' similar to like dogs or some shit - the code is there for two rows of three (four?) nipples along the length of your abdomen. That code is just an inactive evolutionary artifact, but some genetic fuckup can toggle it back on.

...that said, I don't think hormones are a factor, just genetics. Probably still don't eat our food though; most of it's just a wad of sugar, salt, and grease, and diabetes and high bloodpressure will cause a lot more problems than a bonus nipple.

...and I'm sure the alarm will accomplish something this time. The past thousand or so alarm soundings with no action or results have all been flukes.

We don't need angry crowds - those will just be ignored as usual. We need more Luigis.

Habeas corpus is our right

The law doesn't mean shit anymore.

Is it a relic of slavery, or just plain 'ol slavery?

...cuz prison labor is just plain 'ol slavery.

And now we enter that awkward period where we're supposed to show only kindness to someone who's dying, because they're dying, even if they're a horrible fucking person.

Biden's support for genocide handed the presidency to Trump, and between those two things, he's enabled some of the greatest evil I've witnessed in my lifetime.

Fuck you, Biden. You made this world a worse place. The cancer in your ass doesn't make you worthy of respect or undo the giant middle finger you gave to humanity. Your only value was that you weren't Trump; take away that contrast and you're just another evil sack of shit.

Star Citizen looked so fucking cool when it was announced like 15 years ago. Since then it's dipped lower and lower every single time new info comes out.

Like, the hopeful dumbasses that got burned initially like my dumb ass did with No Man's Sky, I kinda get... but how the absolute fuck are they still getting sales?? Are there seriously still people that don't know it's a scam?

Personalized gene editing isn't new, is it? IIRC they did this successfully for sickle cell anemia or something; but it's stupid expensive, so if you're not crazy rich you don't have access to this kind of healthcare.

What's up chefs,

So one of my coworker's kids has been in ROUGH shape the last couple months - couldn't keep anything down. After a ton of labs and testing they FINALLY figured out she has CSID, and they've got her diet narrowed down to foods she can actually stomach.

But, there's sucrose and maltose in like everything, so she's going to be super limited on what she can eat for the rest of her life.

So... I want to send her mom home from work with the best fucking dessert she's ever had, and as many recipes as I can get a hold of, especially comfort food kinds of dishes.

If you've got any that sound like a good match, please share!

Thanks all!

My death cult is better than yours.

Thinking along the lines of Freeman's Mind, Neeb's Subnautica, Red vs Blue (their channel is locked behind some kind of 'join' thing... wtf...)

Anyway, nursing student here! ...it's melting my brain. I don't trust my time-management skills to actually fire up any games right now - the addiction is real, and I'll fuck up my grade; but the 'itch' is also real, so I'm trying to find something to give that gaming fix, but in little short bursts so I don't one-more-level my way out of the program.

Study up, give my brain a nice 10-20 min break, then get back to it.

Not really picky on the game or genre, just looking for something in-character. YouTube is absolutely STUFFED with videos of people just playing games, but hardly any focused on delivering an actual story. Or rather, I'm sure it's there, it's just lost in a sea of low quality slop.

Any recommendations on picking out the gems?

Nursing student here, nearing the end of the program (WOOOOOO!). Most of my textbooks are digital, cuz those were cheaper than the physical versions, but when I log into my 'eLibrary' now, there's a little notification flag that pops up saying access to it ends soon (a month or so after I graduate).

Um... what the fuck?! I'm still going to need access to that material through my nursing career or if I decide to go for a higher degree type.

Most of my textbooks are published by Elsevier, and hosted in an 'eLibrary' at https://pageburstls.elsevier.com/ - once the book it open, it's obnoxiously locked down: copying via ctrl+C does nothing, printing a page or print-to-PDF results in just the sidebar text and page header, but the actual 'book' is blank; and trying to save a copy with the Firefox extension "Single File" also results in a blank page. There is a copy feature built in, where you highlight text and a little window pops up with "Copy" and a few other options, but doing this fails to capture images, and makes an absolute mess of tables, which both make up a lot of the material. And I'm sure my usage of the 'copy' feature is logged, so if I did that to an entire textbook I'd probably get my account flagged or disabled.

I'm probably the least tech-savvy person on Lemmy, so I definitely don't trust myself to torrent this shit without attracting a small army of lawers hell-bent on ruining my life... but I do at least want to keep the material I fucking paid for. I know there are places like LibGen, so textbook piracy is very much a thing: whatever tools are used at the start of that process to rip content hosted on a webpage and get it converted to a PDF or word doc or something sound like the things I should be using.

We have a summer break coming up soon, and backing all my shit up might be my summer project... what tools should I use to accomplish this?

As Youtube becomes filled with more and more shit, I'm increasingly interested in block/hide type features. Even for videos that aren't shit, I'm seeing the same ones appear constantly in the recommendations, even if I've already watched them.

Or in the 'videos' page of a channel, being able to zap-out-of-existence ones I know I don't want to or have already seen: basically the channel should appear completely blank eventually if I've had enough time to pick through it, giving me an at-a-glance gauge of whether there's new content in future visits.

Figured there'd likely be an extension that does this, but I'm not seeing one...

Using Firefox. I do have uBlock Origin, and my first thought was to use the block-element feature to accomplish this, but that's doing things like hiding all the thumbnails vs the content specific to the video I targeted with it.

Any tips?

Been on an Avenged Sevenfold kick lately, with a strong emphasis on songs like The Stage and Wicked End and most of their respective albums. I think it's technically progressive or symphonic metal, but it's got a pretty unique sound even within that category. Idk if 'theatric' makes sense, but I'm struggling to put to words what's setting their music apart in my head.

Anywho, I'm looking for more music that has a similar vibe, but running into the familiar problem of streaming services being trash when it comes to categorizing metal. Any recommendations?

I'm guessing the legal fuzziness is causing a reluctance to report from providers, but I'm having a hell of a time finding much of anything post RvW.

Specifically, I'm wanting to compare rates of IUFDs/stillbirths, speed and effectiveness of care following IUFDs/stillbirths, and maternal complications/deaths - all in states (or countries) that offer access to abortion care vs locations where that's restricted.

Hypothesis is that if someone needs an abortion and can't get one, they're more likely to have a IUFD/stillbirth, and since poor abortion access correlates with poor women's health in general, that they're more susceptible to sepsis or death as a result of delayed or insufficient care following the IUFD/stillbirth.

This is for a presentation that's ready to go as is, but with an election happening RIGHT NOW I'd really like to drive these points home.

Any pointers for sources of info on things like this would be much appreciated - thank you, all!

Nursing student here. I record lectures so review them at high playback speeds, and to share with classmates who aren't able to make it to class.

I've been using the small clip-on battery powered mics made for doing interviews, but last semester revealed a few weaknesses: The profs don't like to actually wear them, so I just clip them onto the lecture podium - works fine while they're standing at it, but they don't have good range, and most of the profs move around a lot as they lecture, so the volume of the recording is all over the place or completely silent if they stray too far away. Also 99% of the time a student asks a question, the mic doesn't capture it at all, so I just get a few seconds of silence followed by some random info with no context. The battery is also only enough to get through about 2/3 of a class period - fine if I remember to swap them out during a break, but not ideal.

Going forward, I'm hoping to find an option I can just plug into my laptop, sit near the front, and record. A normal desktop conferencing style mic stands out as a decent option, but thinking of the range issue I'm having with the portable mics, I suspect a conferencing type product will have the same issue since it's made to record sound coming from like two feet away from the mic.

I've seen like giant fuzzy mics used on movie sets - should I look for something like that?

And are there specific product recommendations you'd make that are on the less expensive end of the spectrum?

Thanks all!

Edit-

Thanks for all the feedback folks! Time to dig through reviews.
