I remember a time when a lot of Conservatives refused to participate in the census, due to a rock-solid insistence that the government had no right to even ask if they'd be willing to volunteer their personal information...and would probably threaten to shoot you, if you implied that it was mandatory.

Now, they want everyone online to upload their photo ID? What the fuck happened, man? How did we get from there, to here?

They are the party of "do as I say, not as I do." Total control freaks, the lot of them. That's why they refused to give up their info, but are just fine making everyone else do so.

At least that means sites won't have the illusion of engagement when it's actually just a flood of bots talking to each other, right?

Not if this goes accompanied with new laws that force consuming content or products from the favoured oligarchies.

After all, if they know what you are doing on the internet, they know you are not spending your money on the stuff they want. And once they can control that, it's over.
