I thought this party was going to "legalize comedy"? I thought they were going to be warriors for "free speech" and against "cancel culture"?

AFAIK, not one Confederate has ever really been cancelled.

Project 2025 spelled out they are going to take over the country by any means

I thought this party was going to “legalize comedy”? I thought they were going to be warriors for “free speech” and against “cancel culture”?

You really thought that? Haven't you realized that politicians job (both red and blue) is to lie and get votes?

[–] ininewcrow@lemmy.ca 90 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

During the Biden years they had dozens of prominent right wing talk shows that are still around that regularly just pump out the nastiest shit to either make light of, diminish or dismiss the deaths of many people. No one ever said a thing about those aholes.

A right winger is killed by another right winger and the government goes and blames an imagined left and use it as an excuse to censor everyone.

What a bunch of whiny idiots.

[–] halcyoncmdr@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

That's because the Democratic Party and its leadership were molded by and are part of the same political swamp. They're not enemies, they're friends with the fascists.

[–] whosepoopisonmybuttocks@sh.itjust.works 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

You're getting downvoted but the way they coordinated internally to make sure Bernie Sanders would lose the presidential primary in 2016 told me everything I need to know about the Democratic party: they don't actually want liberal policies implemented. Their apparent dislike of Mamdani is further evidence.

When people talk about the leopard eating face party I'm never sure which one they are referring to.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 69 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Reposting because I think the real story is:

The "he was fired for talking about Charlie Kirk" narrative is a lie.

He was talking mostly about the Epstein Files.

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Yup, but the Charlie Kirk shooter thing is what they chose as the excuse.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So, EPSTEIN FILES is the real reason. Maybe some brave publication somewhere that isn’t a supplement-selling, do-you-own-research, shaved headapalooza podcast flogging twitch stream could run with that?

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I think that had a part in it, but the joke that likely pissed Trump off the most was the "4th stage of grief, construction" line.

Calling out that Trump doesn't give a shit about Kirk, because it completely undercuts their use of Kirk as a reason to purge the left.

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago

That was one joke on dismissing Kirk, and there were about 10 on Epstein.

[–] ExtremeDullard@piefed.social 37 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I'll just leave thishere.

In case anybody has any doubt about what's going on...

[–] SGGeorwell@lemmy.world 5 points 2 weeks ago

Wow, that’s a great find. Thank you

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I can't tell whether this is real or not.

[–] devedeset@lemmy.zip 4 points 2 weeks ago

A bunch of streaming services removed or modified a bunch of stuff in 2020, including removing a bunch of episodes of Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia because they used blackface in a satirical way that clearly showed that you shouldn't do that.

Meanwhile no one took down Tropic Thunder which basically did the same thing in 2008.

The big difference is there was no obvious government interference in 2020. The companies did it themselves.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The fact that nobody can tell this is satire, says so much about how fucking dystopian things have gotten.

Holy shit.

Does anyone seriously believe that Disney would intentionally create a video, in any capacity where a character says they're going to suck someone's dick?

Don't get me wrong, this is funny as all hell, but quite clearly satire.

This is fishy as fuck. Googling this just goes back to the same creator you linked. No other sources or anything

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 22 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Lawsuit incoming. This will be a slam dunk in all of the courts except one. Guess which one.

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

The only one that really counts.

[–] MystikIncarnate@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

.... Unfortunately.

[–] themaninblack@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago

Fifth circuit

[–] Hector@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

Whether the censorship is by government or by political party it should be unacceptable, seeing as his comment was not actually import taste at all, in fact it was calling out what was important, trying to score political points off of the murder for other reasons.

Running censorship through a private entity does not make it okay.

[–] frustrated_phagocytosis@fedia.io 18 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

So was Colbert, don't forget about him!

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 15 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

People haven't gotten it yet, but Colbert was the sacrifice that CBS had to make to get approval for their sale to Larry Ellison, world's 2nd richest man, and a vicious MAGA. Once Colbert was gone, government approval was granted, and the sale went through.

Now we can expect that CBS, which has had the reputation as the gold standard in broadcast news for decades, is going to be just another mouthpiece in the Conservative Propaganda Machine.

Expect future CBS programming to be heavy on the MAGA propaganda. Lots of cop/military/ICE dramas, COPS-style docu-shows following ICE around, etc., and a decidedly right-wing perspective on all news programming.

Same song, second verse:

The largest operator of ABC affiliates, Nexstar—which needs FCC approval for a $6.2 billion merger—said it would stop airing Kimmel’s show from its stations. Then ABC suspended Kimmel’s show. - Heather Cox Richardson, Letters From an American, September 17, 2025

when i heard that "maybe we'll go after you" my first thought was "which popular personality at ABC gets axed for this"

it was a call to the ceos for blood and blood he got

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 9 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

I really don't understand what he said that was controversial

[–] n0respect@lemmy.world 20 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

I've read elsewhere that he was spreading misinformation -- specifically that is was a MAGA that shot Kirk. which,

1] it is opinion about Trump and MAGA's reaction, not making a statement about the shooter themself.

2] even if he was, it's opinion based on what he knew

3] even if it's wrong, it's free speech

4] even if it's a lie (ie he knows its wrong), that's still constitutionally protected. Fox News even went to the supreme court to protect their right to lie.

[–] AA5B@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago (2 children)

Even if it were an intentional lie, both Fox News personalities and the administrated were already on record with more serious lies about the same thing. Where are their cancellations?

[–] Landless2029@lemmy.world 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's fine when we lie because it's not "News" it's entertainment!

I don't think Fox News is regulated by the FCC as a cable channel. Only broadcast stations.

Critical.

The main word that the thin-skinned Trump regime doesn’t like.

[–] SabinStargem@lemmy.today 9 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Honestly, I don't see much of a difference between government and megacorporations. They are powerful entities that can easily overpower most individuals if there are no roadblocks. If the Constitution is rewritten, the terms of the social contract should account for that.

USA is looking more and more like Putler’s Russia. Hilarious and scary.

[–] hogmomma@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don't know what you find hilarious about any of this.

[–] Lootboblin@lemmy.world 1 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Because USA doesn’t look like a western nation anymore and Trump is making them closer than ever. It’s pretty hilarious if you are not american.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

I wonder if Have I Got News For You will make it past this season

[–] Jyek@sh.itjust.works 5 points 2 weeks ago

This is about securing a merger. It's not even for ABC directly. Nexstar is trying to buy out TEGNA broadcasting and secure larger local broadcasting rights across the country. Nexstar told ABC to take Jimmy Kimmel off the air to curry favor of the FCC which is the only thing in the way of this huge merger. Same damn thing happened to Stephen Colbert in June/July.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 3 points 2 weeks ago

Correction: The proposed merger between Nexstar and Tegna is worth $6.2 billion, not million.

That's a good connection

[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 2 points 2 weeks ago

What about his hosting gig for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? That's a really popular show.

[–] quick_snail@feddit.nl 1 points 2 weeks ago

The government is run by companies. This is the same thing.
