I'm a Michigander. This will not pass the Governor's desk, nor the house. However, it is a sign that the Christo-Fascist right is getting more comfortable and we can't afford to give them an inch, or they will take a mile of porn away.

I appreciate your view on this. Just because something won't pass doesn't mean it isn't cause for concern.

Don't be naive... This has nothing to do with porn or gooners.

Read between the lines

I know that. But these zealots better keep their child-blood soaked hands off of my Big Butt Cougars 2 or I'm about to shove enough host down their throats they'll be shittin' the flesh of christ out their eyeballs.

One of the most eloquently vile things I have ever read. The world is better for having you in it.

Thanks, fellow degenerate!

VPNs are used for remote work everywhere. They just going to instantly have everyone that does remote work just lose their job?

[–] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 21 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Also force any companies who rely on VPNs to move out of the state, further decimating their tax base.

I wonder if an MPLS circuit would fall under the category of VPN for the purposes of this proposed law lol.

Also good fucking luck, anyone could just proxychains through an AWS ec2 or anything else they have ssh access to in order to get out of Michigan, then send the traffic through whatever VPN they want at that point.

[–] ozoned@piefed.social 19 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Oh I'm sure they'll carve exceptions for businesses. THEY matter, humans don't. /s btw if that wasn't clear.

A lot of VPNS can go over 443 and 80 now. Just block all internet.

And thus my new business model is born. For only $1/month, I will pay you to watch porn and test my payment processor by receiving a $1 refund.

Most idiots associate vpns with piracy and porn and have no idea the intended purpose.

It's just like the encryption breaking politicians. NO NO NO! Just let the GOOD guys have the keys.

Also government: "fascism will never return. Trust us bro."

[–] Valmond@lemmy.world 3 points 2 weeks ago

It's their intended use, but it works for remote work too.

If I VPN into another state then it's interstate commerce and then they can't regulate it.

In that case, they can only not regulate the crossing of the VPN signal across state lines, but they can still regulate your connecting to it, which happens in Michigan.

Politicians that have no idea how shit works back at it. Good luck enforcing this.

[–] viking 14 points 2 weeks ago

They don't care about porn, it's a gateway to restrict vpn ownership countrywide and take anonymity away from users.

[–] AntiBullyRanger@ani.social 6 points 2 weeks ago

If that were true, Nonce Trump would have never made crypto, and TOR would have never existed.

This is plain old Heimtückegesetz at play. Stop illusionary truth effecting the threadiverse.
