Yes. Any time you’re not looking at the road is bad in a moving vehicle.

I know the answer is advertising and because it’s cheaper and easier but why the fuck did HUDs not become the default?

Why would you not put critical info right where you can pay attention to the road? I will always consider this one of the easiest safety improvements that should have immediately been regulated in.

My new car has a HUD and it's so nice. It has a touchscreen too, but the GPS info on the HUD itself saves me from looking at the screen.

This is pretty much exactly how it should be done.

HUDs don’t look impressive sitting still in the dealership.

Plus they still have to wire up all the buttons if they’re not using a touch screen.

Manufacturers sell cars, they don't sell safety.

Up to the time they were integrated in cars, in my country it was illegal to operate a phone while driving.

First thing I do when I get into a new car, rental, etc... is turn off the hud. It's only value is as a backup camera

I think you mean the infotainment screen.

A HUD is usually just a simplified form of your cluster projected onto your windscreen.

Heads up display. Not the first time threads use an acronym no one understands.
