Showerthoughts

A "Showerthought" is a simple term used to describe the thoughts that pop into your head while you're doing everyday things like taking a shower, driving, or just daydreaming. The most popular seem to be lighthearted clever little truths, hidden in daily life.

Here are some examples to inspire your own showerthoughts:

Rules

  1. All posts must be showerthoughts
  2. The entire showerthought must be in the title
  3. No politics
    • If your topic is in a grey area, please phrase it to emphasize the fascinating aspects, not the dramatic aspects. You can do this by avoiding overly politicized terms such as "capitalism" and "communism". If you must make comparisons, you can say something is different without saying something is better/worse.
    • A good place for politics is c/politicaldiscussion
  4. Posts must be original/unique
  5. Adhere to Lemmy's Code of Conduct and the TOS

If you made it this far, showerthoughts is accepting new mods. This community is generally tame so its not a lot of work, but having a few more mods would help reports get addressed a little sooner.

Whats it like to be a mod? Reports just show up as messages in your Lemmy inbox, and if a different mod has already addressed the report, the message goes away and you never worry about it.

[–] MyRobotShitsBolts@lemmy.world 20 points 1 week ago (2 children)

You're all wrong. Everyone is straight on the Freddy Mercury gay scale.

[–] Bane_Killgrind@lemmy.dbzer0.com 12 points 1 week ago

[–] Munkisquisher@lemmy.nz 8 points 1 week ago

[–] yermaw@sh.itjust.works 76 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The Gay-Team.

[–] ThePantser@sh.itjust.works 19 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Does the big burly black man still need to be drugged to fly?

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

So entire human sexuality can be described as being between two people at each ends.

[–] Hadriscus@jlai.lu 29 points 1 week ago

a kind of worldwide spitroast

[–] Balinares@pawb.social 32 points 1 week ago (3 children)

Only if you think someone's position on the spectrum never changes over time. Which, judging from the microsecond moment of pause induced in "straights" by the proximity of shirtless Jason Momoa, is not how this works.

[–] axexrx@lemmy.world 9 points 1 week ago

Whoever is gayest could change from moment to moment as individual scores fluctuate. Or maybe you have to look at it as an average of all those cumulative scores. Rich had a fleeting moment of straightness, in an otherwise 100% gay life, that puts him a hair behind Stephan, whose gayness has been unwavering since birth.

More likely though, I think whether you look at the cumulative, or second to second, its a many way tie.

I think of it like beauty - there’s not much disagreement about whether someone is a 9, but a 10 is completely subjective. For someone to be breathtakingly stunning, there usually has to be something about them that most other people don’t see.

Once you get to the elite ranks there will always be disagreement on how to score the parameters of ultimate gayness

[–] entropicdrift@lemmy.sdf.org 9 points 1 week ago

Much like IQ, once you're more than 2 standard deviations from the mean, there's no statistically meaningful way to measure additional queerness.

Not necessarily, there could just be a hard limit that multiple people hit. They're gayness is pegged, if you will. 😏

[–] andallthat@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

It's more that each person will have a moment in their life when they are at their gayest

[–] prex@aussie.zone 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And it goes up and down at a certain gaydence.

More importantly does that mean people can be ordered by that and can we construct a binary search tree to find anyone with a specific value of gay within O(log_2(n)) time?

[–] BlackRoseAmongThorns@slrpnk.net 9 points 1 week ago (5 children)

If and only if you can define "gay" on a one dimensional axis, otherwise it would be like plotting points on an N-dimensional graph, I'm pretty sure "gay" is a multiple dimensions thing.

So sadly we wont be getting a

tree: BinaryTree<Person> = BinaryTree::new_sorted_by(order_gayest);

anytime soon 😒

[–] irelephant@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Not with that attitude

[–] Dogiedog64@lemmy.world 15 points 1 week ago (6 children)

Yes it does, and Grant O'Brien is a STRONG contender for that title.

Idk Harley owners seem to be right up there.

I was bike curious, but later decided I'd rather have a Japanese bike.

[–] Cevilia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 14 points 1 week ago

Yes, probably my wife.

Yeah, and it's almost certainly some Baptist prosperity gospel preacher with nineteen children.

[–] FenderStratocaster@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Someone sucked the most dicks, so yeah.

If they sucked 2 cocks a day (conservative, I know) over a gay career of fifty years, that would be 36,500 cocks. Which is a very respectable number imo. But is that gayer than a guy in a committed relationship sucking the same cock 36,500 times?

[–] Generica@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

But(t) am I the gayest for sucking the most cocks or because I'm the best?

[–] CannedYeet@lemmy.world 14 points 1 week ago

Whenever someone breaks a barrier as "The first gay..." remember that they're technically "the gayest...".

[–] bonus_crab@lemmy.world 13 points 1 week ago

Not necessarily, there probably exists multiple orderings on gayness , the question is if you can create a total ordering and if its multiple people are maximally gay, or at least if the gayest people are equally gay.

[–] Droggelbecher@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (7 children)

I'm the straightest person. I don't have a gender, and I'm attracted to all genders. 'all' and 'none' are by far more opposite each other *than any two specific sexes or genders could ever be.

Scientifically speaking no, just like 2 objects can have the exact same color multiple people can all be on the end of this spectrum.

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 10 points 1 week ago

Yes. Once base stats are at maximum, it's all about positions, gear, and situational awareness.
