https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horst-Wessel-Lied

Horst Wessel was a Nazi bully boy who got into a fight with his landlady's friends over unpaid rent. After his death he was elevated to martyr status by Hitler.

They really are following the playbook, aren't they.

And it’s so obvious yet allowed that Occam’s Razor dictates Americans want it.

a shocking number of americans don't know the first thing about the material conditions and systems failures that led to the second world war. i learned about horst wessel in a library book after i finished college

Those vets didn't preach Jesus bullshit to millions of followers. Those vets can't spin up millions of religious fanatics into a frenzy. The influence those vets have, just isn't enough to advance the Republican agenda.

Those MAGA eat it up. Because it's easy to just stack on the hate and boy....does MAGA love to hate.

Is America trying to get dumber every day?

First time learning about the republicans, eh? Yes, that is one of their MOs.

We're reaching levels of stupid that shouldn't even be possible.

Our education is mostly a childcare system masquerading as education and it shows.

In the mid-80's a new newspaper was launched called "USA Today". It was a national newspaper which was kind of novel, as most were regional, but the big thing was that it was very specifically written for a fifth-grade reading level. It was a big deal at the time - a lot of "doom and gloom" naysayers talking about how we were dumbing down the "populace" (that's a fancy word meaning everybody) and so on.

Around this time Reagan killed the Fairness Doctrine so AM radio stations could blowtorch right-wing assholery 24/7 and not have to worry about pesky counterpoint arguments.

In the mid-90s a bunch of Nixon sycophants started Fox News and actively attacked reason and logic.

Somewhere around the Iraq War II: Geedubz Boogaloo, we got faceplant and twits, two "apps" that let everyone hold forth on their lifelong scholarly pursuits.

And now, all of those things have been replicated around the world for - well, at least a decade or two now. So. Heads up!

And succeeding

I don't give a shit how people honor thier friends, but I object to my tax dollars being used to honor friends of the executive branch. I mean if this was one of JD Vance's college buddies that we all paid hundreds of thousands of dollars for that would be illegal right? How exactly is this different?

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 7 points 1 month ago

It isn't. The rule of law is laid bare as a sick joke that only applies to poor people.

People should be identified who carried out these orders. They cost a ton of money to us, and we deserve to know their names.

[–] BigMacHole@sopuli.xyz 12 points 1 month ago

This is STUPID! We LOVE the Veterans! THATS why we DONT give them Military Honors and INSTEAD labeling them TERRORISTS for Fighting the Nazis!

[–] amzd@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago

Veterans? You mean people who went abroad to fight in wars? Against fascist regimes? You mean the anti-fascist soldiers? Antifa doesn’t deserve respect or even human rights really

They are trying to make him a MAGA martyr. Stop challenging them, or else you will be canceled.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 6 points 1 month ago (1 children)

heh. air force number two.

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 5 points 1 month ago

The fascists needed a narrative.

Simple as that.

Maybe it's less about DISrespecting the military, but MORE about respecting what Kirk actually did. Which means that people like Kirk do WAY more damage than we know.

[–] kahdbrixk@feddit.org 3 points 1 month ago

Logic doesn't apply to anything anymore. Nice try though.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

Yup, I am not buying it. This reeks of a coverup.

[–] kokesh@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Je was a fucking racist, so he is in now.

[–] DeathsEmbrace@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

Charlie Kirk was a national tragedy that did hijack the emotional narrative which is not his wishes but alas.

That man was in the trenches debating, arguing, podcasting, and posting. He did that work for decades.

How many soldiers serve that long? How many soldiers fight as hard as that man posted?

Maybe show some respect.
