This is what Iran looked like in the 1970s, before the Islamic Regime:

This one hits a little harder

*Before the U.S assassinated their democratic secular leader who didn't want foreign companies owning all their resources so the people in their own country weren't dirt poor like Africa.

I believe you're talking about the CIA backed coup in 1953.

This picture would have been taken during the period where Iran was ruled by the Western puppet Shah.

But the point still stands, tough to imagine the Iranian Revolution of 1979 if there had never been a Western coup and over 25 years of effectively Western rule.

Yes I didn't clarify that but I know the history a decent bit. They installed an internationalist far right government and the Iranians overthrew that government, leading to the modern state.

And the "modern" state is a highly progressive (not) "guided republic" led by mostly illiterate mullahs who aspire to force Iran back to medieval despotism. It's rule by religious conservatives, not a contrast to far-right government-- the only difference is the internationalist part.

In some ways I understand. If they did anything less they would be denationalized and since Persians aren't considered white really they would get a way worse deal. The vast majority of the people would be homeless and starving while armed propagandized guards protected international companies exporting every valuable resource out of the country. The unfortunate part about Iran is the religious stuff. Religions are terrible. They ruin the happiness of most of the population.

this is what iranians looked like before revolution.

Well, yes. Before all Jews and other minorities were expelled.

[–] rezad@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

expelled? that would be news to the tens of thousands living in iran and their representatives in the Majles.

[–] rezad@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

I am sorry that you think people were expelled. a lot of them ran but I am sure no one was expelled. and you imagine they were expelled to where?

And after the UK/US overthrew their democratically elected regime to install an autocrat.

Maybe if the west would stop meddling in the middle east things wouldn't be so fucked up.

It's safe, the ankles are out of frame.

[–] VitoRobles@lemmy.today 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Those arms are very... Distracting.

Gonna need those blurred.

Also the hair. And ears. And might as well blur the face. And the silhouette.

Breaking: This is what they don't want you to see!

the legs

[–] massive_bereavement@fedia.io 1 points 2 days ago

Thanks, I feel like I've unlocked a fetish.

I just heard the steam unlocking sound.

It's not as rare as I expected.

I feel like this over censorship has to be detrimental to their fight against impure thoughts...

Like 98% of guys would just see the woman's legs find it unremarkable, and move on. But now that its censored, its marked as something to be lust worthy. Now everyone seeing the image is imagining the legs a having a sexual value worth obscuring.

It's a job-creation program for junior mullahs who are skilled enough to be able to operate a Sharpie.

Something similar used to happen in Saudi Arabia. Young men from a highly observant backgound would sign up for the muttawa'a (the morality police) in order to get a chance to see some ankle, and possibly even to speak to a woman who's not a blood relative (mainly to say "hide your shame!").

[–] hedge_lord@lemmy.world 5 points 4 days ago

N- no! I don't have legs! I'm not some leg-having freak! My pants just hide my stilts, not legs haha. That'd be ridiculous!

I can't let them know that I have legs I can't let them know that I have legs Ican'tletthemknowIhavelegs
