Akshually the Democrats are asking nicely for these things but Republicans control all three branches of government and are solely responsible for this shutdown they are trying to point the finger for.

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.
Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.
What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.
By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

There's dropping the ball, and then there's intentionally omitting.
Considering the fact that a dozen or so rich assholes control most of the news media that people will see, and that all of them are more than happy to support a government that lowers their taxes, this ain't the former.
You barely have healthcare for legals.
When they say "healthcare", they mean "health insurance". Not even necessarily good health insurance, either.
It turns out that if you let the media say whatever then bad stuff happens.

I don't consider spreading literal lies to have much inherent virtue.
Capture of the media is a separate issue and falls under the broader umbrella of capitalism being fucking awful.
Via sources that were basically gifted to them by the general public (at the governments behest) so that they could present an unbiased source of information for that same public.
Free press doesn't mean you get to say whatever you want with no consequences, it means everyone is given equal footing when presenting journalistic media. That includes those critical of leading so-called journalists.
Yes, a problem is the ghouls who own most of mainstream media. It's also the lack of pushback from both the general public and their representatives in the government.
Why let little things like facts and reality get in the way of a good sound byte to an echo chamber audience.
They very well could be asking for that, but their voters are the ones who matter. Plus they only need 5 more votes to get 60, based on their last vote. They can't convince 5 more to get on board? Better start trying to get those numbers up.

overriding a veto takes more support in congress than just evicting the shitstain from the white house.
