  1. Post only links to articles, Title must fairly describe link contents. If your title differs from the site’s, it should only be to add context or be more descriptive. Do not post entire articles in the body or in the comments.

Links must be to the original source, not an aggregator like Google Amp, MSN, or Yahoo.

Example:

  1. Articles must be relevant to politics. Links must be to quality and original content. Articles should be worth reading. Clickbait, stub articles, and rehosted or stolen content are not allowed. Check your source for Reliability and Bias here.
  2. Be civil, No violations of TOS. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
  3. No memes, trolling, or low-effort comments. Reposts, misinformation, off-topic, trolling, or offensive. Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
  4. Vote based on comment quality, not agreement. This community aims to foster discussion; please reward people for putting effort into articulating their viewpoint, even if you disagree with it.
  5. No hate speech, slurs, celebrating death, advocating violence, or abusive language. This will result in a ban. Usernames containing racist, or inappropriate slurs will be banned without warning

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

That's all the rules!

cant pull out all the stops on militarization without a de-facto declaration of war.

the war on drugs, now with more war!

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 16 points 3 days ago (1 children)

The war on drugs, now with more "terrorists", because words don't mean shit any more!

[–] RaoulDook@lemmy.world 37 points 3 days ago (3 children)

Congress is the branch of the government that can declare war, not the President.

[–] Bonifratz@sh.itjust.works 27 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Except in MAGA world everything is made up and the rules don't matter.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

MAGA = Republican. No difference.

[–] Voroxpete@sh.itjust.works 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

That used to be true. Then the early 2000s happened and Congress effectively signed away that authority.

Never forget the Patriot Act

[–] BakerBagel@midwest.social 1 points 2 days ago

The US jas deployed a lot of troops for avtive combat across the world on the past 80 years despite Congress not declaring a single war since Pearl Harbor. This sort of naked power grab was inevitable.

too bad we can’t hold any elections while we’re at war

[–] paranoid@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

While this is true for other countries, such as Ukraine, it isn't true for America

[–] ozymandias@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 points 2 days ago

i know, however trump was awfully interested in the concept when he learned about it

Mr. Trump’s move to formally deem his campaign against drug cartels as an active armed conflict means he is cementing his claim to extraordinary wartime powers, legal specialists said.

This here. His whole rhetoric about enemies within & without is about this. Or, as another headline reads:

Lawmaker Sounds Alarm: Trump Plotting Fake Crisis to Scrap 2028 Election and Stay in Power

[–] ToastedRavioli@midwest.social 8 points 3 days ago

Theyll certainly overlap the two things. Ice agents literally repelled from helicopters to raid an apartment building in Chicago recently, allegedly because of Tren De Aragua members being there. Next theyll say they need to declare martial law and sweep the cities

[–] danc4498@lemmy.world 3 points 3 days ago

Can’t hold elections during wartimes! Or at least that’s what he heard from somewhere…

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 18 points 2 days ago (2 children)

The Peace President, everyone.

Seems interested in annexing Canada, Greenland and Panama. Going to war with Venezuela. Going to war with our OWN CITIES. And restarting the stupid "drug wars".

Nobel Peace Prize, please!

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Yeah but... Kamala...!

[–] joyjoy@lemmy.zip 23 points 3 days ago (1 children)

I thought the war on drugs was over, and the drugs won.

[–] JasonDJ@lemmy.zip 9 points 3 days ago

I fought the drugs and the drugs won.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 10 points 2 days ago

He's been desperately trying to start a war ever since Zelensky told him Ukraine has suspended election over being at war and he's failing miserably. What a loser.

[–] DaMummy@lemmy.world 14 points 3 days ago

Fuck yeah! We're finally starting a War on Drugs. Why didn't anyone think of this before? We have to depend on this orange baffoon to come up with like a really smart idea. SAD!

[–] whiwake@lemmy.cafe 9 points 2 days ago

All I hear is something about the Epstein files

[–] phutatorius@lemmy.zip 3 points 2 days ago

And by "determined," they mean "pulled it from where the sun don't shine."
