Fediverse vs Disinformation

1816 readers
135 users here now

Pointing out, debunking, and spreading awareness about state- and company-sponsored astroturfing on Lemmy and elsewhere. This includes social media manipulation, propaganda, and disinformation campaigns, among others.

Propaganda and disinformation are a big problem on the internet, and the Fediverse is no exception.

What's the difference between misinformation and disinformation? The inadvertent spread of false information is misinformation. Disinformation is the intentional spread of falsehoods.

By equipping yourself with knowledge of current disinformation campaigns by state actors, corporations and their cheerleaders, you will be better able to identify, report and (hopefully) remove content matching known disinformation campaigns.

Immigration and Customs and Enforcement officials have claimed since June that assaults on their own officers have climbed sharply, with the White House insisting in a September executive order that attacks are up "more than 1,000 percent."... An analysis of court records shows about a 25% rise in charges for assault against federal officers through mid-September, compared with the same period a year ago.

Even if the 1000% increase were true, it's still less than they deserve. I'm shocked there hasn't been more resistance.

I'm waiting for the inevitable headline "ice raid meets grisly end. 12 officers gunned down in neighborhood street in front of crowd. No witnesses forthcoming."

IMO the Whitehouse is just putting these ICE people into situations where, sooner or later, someone is going to shoot them in the face and then its going to trigger Marshall Law.

No, it's TJ Max's competitor that will rule over us. The jack-boots will be priced low.

Tj max and Marshall’s are the same company

And thats how theyll get us. An incredibly well coordinated retail flanking maneuver.

Data says otherwise

That sucks

CAN ANY JOURNALIST JUST ONCE PLEASE ASK FOR EVIDENCE ON THIS?

Sorry for the yelling but I'm getting slightly.tired of that government just claiming one bullshit lie after another and not even once has any evidence been shown for any of the bullshit

Reporters don't because the last person who asked "source please" is currently fighting a first amendment violation because their press pass was revoked as a result of even having the audacity to question the commander in chief.

It's not worth it to any news organization to put that risk in place because it prevents them from reporting on future items.

This country is a roaring dumpsterfire.

But requests for any data kept by that agency were denied, with a spokesperson for the Department of Homeland Security declining to cite the source of that data or the methodology used to arrive at the increase it announced in August.

For some reason, they don't release the actual count, but just the percentage.

I wonder why that could be?

[–] CarbonatedPastaSauce@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

Those are rookie numbers. Gotta pump those numbers up!

[–] miked@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 months ago

The number of people charged is irrelevant as many of those charged have the charges dismissed.

[–] shalafi@lemmy.world 6 points 2 months ago

The White House has stated that filming ICE is an attack. So yeah, "attacks" are probably up 1000%.

[–] HubertManne@piefed.social 4 points 2 months ago

Although. If true. You gotta ask yourself. What changed that might have caused this and how can it be eliminated?

As with anything Trump and friends say: prove it. Show the incidents with body cam footage from those arrests so nothing is taken out of context
