Moderator Guidelines

  • Don’t be mean to users. Be gentle or neutral.
  • Most moderator actions which have a modlog message should include your username.
  • When in doubt about whether or not a user is problematic, send them a DM.
  • Don’t waste time debating/arguing with problematic users.
  • Assume the best, but don’t tolerate sealioning/just asking questions/concern trolling.
  • Ask another mod to take over cases you struggle with, if you get tired, or when things get personal.
  • Ask the other mods for advice when things get complicated.
  • Share everything you do in the mod matrix, both so several mods aren't unknowingly handling the same issues, but also so you can receive feedback on what you intend to do.
  • Don't rush mod actions. If a case doesn't need to be handled right away, consider taking a short break before getting to it. This is to say, cool down and make room for feedback.
  • Don’t perform too much moderation in the comments, except if you want a verdict to be public or to ask people to dial a convo down/stop. Single comment warnings are okay.
  • Send users concise DMs about verdicts about them, such as bans etc, except in cases where it is clear we don’t want them at all, such as obvious transphobes. No need to notify someone they haven’t been banned of course.
  • Explain to a user why their behavior is problematic and how it is distressing others rather than engage with whatever they are saying. Ask them to avoid this in the future and send them packing if they do not comply.
  • First warn users, then temp ban them, then finally perma ban them when they break the rules or act inappropriately. Skip steps if necessary.
  • Use neutral statements like “this statement can be considered transphobic” rather than “you are being transphobic”.
  • No large decisions or actions without community input (polls or meta posts f.ex.).
  • Large internal decisions (such as ousting a mod) might require a vote, needing more than 50% of the votes to pass. Also consider asking the community for feedback.
  • Remember you are a voluntary moderator. You don’t get paid. Take a break when you need one. Perhaps ask another moderator to step in if necessary.

I read this as 1 kilodollar.

that's entirely correct tbh

Do you really need a conversion program for that?

[–] thevoidzero@lemmy.world 12 points 5 days ago

No, but I wanted to test if it'd be considered valid by the program. I think the algorithm just does kilo _ = 1000 x _

Is that not what the k represents when people use it as a short-hand for "thousand"?

[–] MisterFrog@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago

It's just that usually the $ unit comes before the number.

Which I accept, but don't like for the inconsistency with how we write units after the number.

[–] fushuan@lemmy.blahaj.zone 5 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (1 children)

It's not shorthand for thousand, it IS thousand.

kk=M -> 10^3*10^3=10^6
kM=G -> 10^3*10^6=10^9
kkk=G= "a billion"

MATH IS WITH ME, BILLIONAIRES ARE MEMBERS OF THE kkk!!!!!

I think people understand that k = 1000 but don't realize where it comes from.

As an aside, I really like talking about mega euros. Five million euros? Nah, five mega euros

Reminds me of a Fear Factor event my Mormon church group had in which one “disgusting” feat for boys was to shave part of their legs. That particular feat was cancelled when some boys who didn't subscribe to traditional “manly” values happily started shaving their legs for points. Unlike swallowing goldfishes, eating grasshoppers, or attempting to drink a gallon of milk, leg shaving was a step too far for church leaders.

[–] Jankatarch@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Fear factor event for Mormon priests is just watching guys choose to shave leg hair over eating live insects raw.

[–] baltakatei@sopuli.xyz 1 points 1 day ago

The insects were dried protein snacks from a Boy Scout's wilderness guide training; they were like salted sunflower seeds with the shell still on. It was the Wal-Mart goldfishes that were alive and swallowed Attack-on-Titan-style.

[–] Badabinski@kbin.earth 13 points 5 days ago

I've lived in Utah for like 30 years and I can picture this so clearly in my head.

[–] LuckingFurker@lemmy.blahaj.zone 71 points 5 days ago

Absolutely. I'd pay anything to wear that for a week

i'm in year 8 of transition i basically did pay $1k to wear that

Eh, it's a summer fit. For winter I much prefer big knit dresses and those fakeout thermal thights:

[–] zaphod@sopuli.xyz 39 points 5 days ago (1 children)

basically dystopian

Do I get to keep the outfit :3

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

The second one would be an absolute challenge for Asmongold.

[–] TotallynotJessica@lemmy.blahaj.zone 4 points 4 days ago (1 children)

I'm not sure why exactly, but knowing him I'm not sure I want to know.

[–] ZILtoid1991@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago (2 children)

There's a video of him trying to eat fruit, only to spit it instantly out and constantly gagging.

excluding his moral quality, he seems like a gross human being

i mean, i am not gay but 1k$ would help me a lot (does the price doubles as i wear it for one more week?)

[–] ignotum@lemmy.world 7 points 4 days ago

123 trillion usd in the world, assuming the 1k doubles every week (1, 2, 4, 8 etc) you'd only need to wear it for 37 weeks or ~0.7 years before you'd be richer than the rest of... earth

Would you do it?

Insist on peeling the orange myself, fail, cry.

[–] homura1650@lemmy.world 21 points 5 days ago (3 children)

Serious question: does anyone know where I can get that dress? I don't need the money; just the dress.

[–] QuinnyCoded@sh.itjust.works 9 points 5 days ago* (last edited 5 days ago) (1 children)

I'd prefer if the skirt and top weren't connected. I have so many different shirts I wear with my skirts. The top looks soo cute

[–] homura1650@lemmy.world 8 points 5 days ago

Good news! The top is actually a separate piece. https://www.amazon.com/Prints-Casual-Cotton-Dresses-Spring/dp/B079K73S9R

Although not quite as cute as I thought.

Aww mannn, I would have to wear panties and bra with that.

1k is still 1k though.

[–] Nyadia@lemmy.blahaj.zone 19 points 5 days ago (2 children)

I uh, might have seen this post back during the pandemic and bought this fit with my stimulus money (it doesn't look as cute as the picture makes it out to be cause the skirt of the dress doesn't flare out like that and looks rather boxy, however the top is separate from the dress and you can wear it as a crop top and pair it with another dress/skirt and it looks better that way imo)

Even though I would only be at work 3 of those days, I would still say the answer is no. $1k is not enough for me to dress that way for a whole week. Maybe $10k.

There is a ton of stuff I would do for $1k. You want two days of my engineering and CAD skills? You want me to go to the hospital to tell people they're loved ones have died? You want me to wipe down the loads in the steam room (in a tyvek suit and gloves)? Those are all things I could do for $1K. But I'm not wearing that.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 19 points 5 days ago (1 children)

$1k/w is what i earn doing my job... your telling me i can take a week off and hide in my room and all i have to get my fat ass in some clothing with no obligations to leave my house? Where do i sign up?

[–] RedRibbonArmy@sh.itjust.works 6 points 5 days ago (1 children)

Exactly, just let me call out sick.

Would I have multiple sets? Wearing the same clothes for a week would not be very hygienic

Damn free 1k

[–] jj4211@lemmy.world 3 points 4 days ago

Nah, I can't afford to spare $1k to rent that for a week to wear.

[–] Fredthefishlord@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 points 4 days ago* (last edited 4 days ago) (2 children)

Unfortunately work does not allow skirts due to safety hazards so I would have to pass unless that 1k comes with health insurance... (Thanks usa)
