Rules for Posting Guides on Our Community

1. Defining a Guide Guides are comprehensive reference materials, how-tos, or comparison tables. A guide must be well-organized both in content and layout. Information should be easily accessible without unnecessary navigation. Guides can include flowcharts, step-by-step instructions, or visual references that compare different elements side by side.

2. Infographic Guidelines Infographics are permitted if they are educational and informative. They should aim to convey complex information visually and clearly. However, infographics that primarily serve as visual essays without structured guidance will be subject to removal.

3. Grey Area Moderators may use discretion when deciding to remove posts. If in doubt, message us or use downvotes for content you find inappropriate.

4. Source Attribution If you know the original source of a guide, share it in the comments to credit the creators.

5. Diverse Content To keep our community engaging, avoid saturating the feed with similar topics. Excessive posts on a single topic may be moderated to maintain diversity.

6. Verify in Comments Always check the comments for additional insights or corrections. Moderators rely on community expertise for accuracy.

Community Guidelines

By following these rules, we can maintain a diverse and informative community. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to the moderators. Thank you for contributing responsibly!

WTF is a Grape Pie?

Sincerely, someone who's lived in Arizona for 24 years.

[–] robocall@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Could you please ask your neighbors which one of them is furiously Google searching "grape pie"?

South Dakota and Minnesota: ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

[–] jambudz@lemmy.zip 4 points 1 day ago

Lived in and around DC basically my whole life. I have never once seen a “banoffee pie” nor would I be able to identify it or describe it.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

From KS and live in MO. I have never eaten Frito Chili Pie and I’ve only had Apple on thanksgiving once.

It is from a real huffpost "article" that I found, but yeah, it's basically rage bait.

[–] mfed1122@discuss.tchncs.de 6 points 2 days ago

Yeah no hate on you OP :)

I figured it was either by someone outside the US or someone who just thought it was good conversation anyways.

Uniquely searched pies

cream pie

Are we sure this was for thanksgiving?

[–] higgsboson@piefed.social 43 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Title is utter horseshit.

The map is only a measure of "unique searches" by people from that state on Google. Nothing to do with actual preferences, just what they searched.

[–] ChexMax@lemmy.world 19 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Yup. No one is searching pumpkin pie. Either you're buying it, or you know how to make it.

[–] MimicJar@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago

That's exactly my thought. This list is probably closer to, "second pie we want to try".

Chocolate pie is a custard pie. fite me.

[–] musky_occultist@lemmy.world 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I don't think sweet potato pie is as big as they think, but more to the point, I'm angry about it being included with "savory."

[–] samus12345@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago

Sweet potato pie

"Savory"

[–] mosspiglet@discuss.online 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

yeah, sweet potato pie is definitely not savory.

I know a lot of people are complaining about the accuracy of... basically everything about this map.

But what really bothers me is that I feel with every fiber of my being like Pumpkin Pie and Key Lime Pie shouldn't be in the same category as each other. They're just not the same kind of experience. Regardless of who eats them when.

[–] gravitas_deficiency@sh.itjust.works 25 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Heh, I see you, Nevada 😏

[–] pinball_wizard@lemmy.zip 5 points 2 days ago

Narrator: They weren't searching for pie.

[–] switcheroo@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

Aww yeaaah Oregon sitting over here on the ONLY pie I can actually make. Mmm mm.

(Didn't know it was that popular of a dish. Damn good, even if seriously ugly.)

[–] Zetta@mander.xyz 15 points 3 days ago (2 children)

I've never even fucking heard of the pie that is apparently the most popular in my state. I call bullshit.

I call bullshit. If anyone shows up to thanksgiving with anything other than Apple or Pumpkin there's gonna be some issues.

[–] djsoren19@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 2 days ago

I can understand a Pecan. Not personally for me, but I get it. To a lesser extent, I could maybe even understand like a chocolate cream. It's definitely out there, but maybe there's some specific allergens at the table.

Key Lime Pie? Banana Cream? Tamale Pie?! if somebody showed up to my friendsgiving with that they are not being asked back.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 20 points 3 days ago

pecan is pretty synonomous with the holidays.

[–] lilith267@lemmy.blahaj.zone 8 points 3 days ago (4 children)

Clearly you've never had shoofly pie

The lack of talk about shoofly pie really saddens me since its the best pie

[–] Sh00Fly@piefed.social 8 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Yes, it is the best pie! 🥧 Nice to meet you, lilith267. You are now my bestie.

I have now learned that most Americans have incorrect preferences

[–] cyberpunk007@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 days ago

Pumpkin pie or bust

[–] Bluefalcon@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 3 days ago (1 children)
